i have an impact gun, but it's a pretty cheap one. it hammered away with no success. don't really wanna buy a better one as i've only had it a few weeks. i'll try a tough t bar and a few feet of pipe and see how that goes.

You could hire a 3/4 drive socket set from an Industrial Hire place, probably cost 20 bucks for half a day.
They also have electric Impact wrenches.
I go to BE Hire in Doncaster, but they'd all have them.

I also have a cheap and cheerful air impact gun. It hammers away with no success on these jobs, because it's cheap chinese junk designed for about 100nm at best. It didn't even look at the pinion nut or the manifold flange nut. Perhaps a real air impact gun would do it, but they are too expensive for limited home workshop use.

That's why I use the Shentai 12v which sells for around $70.

              CV nut

As suggested, a good quality socket and bar with an extension of some sort. Make sure you are trying to undo it the right way though. Both sides are normal right hand threads so undo anti clockwise. Some people incorrectly think they are LH thread.

It does if you're spinning the wheel or lifting the car off the ground!

A wheel on the car and the weight of the car on the ground helps too.

I used the wrench with a foot long bar on the end and stomped on it. The longer the bar the more torque you create.

Try to heat it up and then throw water on it, if the nut is a different density to what its screwed on to then one will cool down more than the other and should therefore be smaller. It worked when my alloy wheel was stuck on the hub.

Supercheep sell a tyre wrench that is extendable and that you can fit a standard 1/2 inch socket on. Best thing in the shop imo.
