Ah ok. The broken one is the same shape and the new sump came from J-rad maby he could shed a bit more light as to exactly where it came from.

        came off my diesel.

I've got a passat sump lying around as well, that's a different shape.

remember it was a bit pre-loved from when it came off my diesel hence why it came off in the first place

Well its only worth about $35 including the 6mm steel and there is enough left over to do another one haha.

I think the lowest point on the sump is about 30-40mm without the steel.

If it to much to handle than ill get someone with an oxy to heat the metal and bend it up to the sump.

It was doing that before i changed the sump haha.

I just took it for a drive and its worse than i expected. The suspention settled back down after i had the car up to change the sump aaaaaaand it not 22mm...its not 10mm......its more like 2mm.

No one i know has an oxy

ride height that low which requires this kind of modification isn't exactly my cup of tea, I'm waiting for one of you guys to drop it in a pot hole or really hit something in the road and bend the sump properly so it breaks the oil pump.

Why are you waiting for that? Dont jinx it.

It's not like im speeding around so fast in my 450,000km 1.6 auto to miss a dangerous pot hole or something in the road and even if i do so bloody what! Ive got a spare engine, a spare car, lots of dubbing mates who can help with parts and its not exactly super hard to find an 8v bottom end if i REALY need one.

Im my position there is not realy much a mk1 can do other than sit on its guts and look good.

you need to get an east west sump, that sump is cut for audi passat mount

and if you really want i can make it bomb proof

i think (correct me if im wrong) volksee was pointing out that if you have it that low, when you hit something your really going to know about it, sump reinforcement or not.

personally, i've been there and done that with sumps - best ever was a chopped spring 2 door cruiser - we managed to brake off the oil pickup in that one without holeing the sump! i wasnt in the car at the time (in another car just ahead) however the point at which the sump carved a trench in the dirt driveway was several meters from the "lift off" zone. the car drove for another 10 minutes (with no oil pressure) and the next morning we pulled the sump, siliconed a bit of copper pipe onto the pump, bolted the sump back on and the car drove 400km back to newcastle.

                              PM Sent man!

The welds on the middle plate have cracked because of it being pushed up over bumps more than expected and its leaking a bit of oil. Not as bad as before but still enough to remind my mate that he's a shiz welder and our design was a bit crap. The sparks are cool though.

Exactly what i was saying mate, being this low and hitting something will most likely (and really unfortunately) result in breaking off the oil pickup. I would hate to see another mk1 wrecked. When welding the reinforcing on unfortunately you are only welding it to the sump itself which will still bend if you get a proper hit. Can i suggest making a bracket which bolts to the block via the sump bolts front and back hence any load is taken by the much stronger block?
