gotrice, I cant figure why you would start such a thread as you havent even reached 200 posts in over 4 years???
If you guys start infighting/arguing with the Mk5 members, I will quit this forum...

In the MK 1 section the word "dealer" has been used 44 times

One of the many benefits of owning a MK 1 golf is that you never have any issues with VW dealers 'cos there's just no point going there. Also I think they stopped selling MK1s.

There's just more stuff to go wrong with a MK 5. Hands up if your rain sensor needs to be reprogrammed with VagCom because your sunroof isn't shutting itself.

I tried tossing a few chips down the carby but all it did was make seagulls chase me.

Well i dropped my daks and flashed my mk1 and it didnt go any faster!!! Maybe if I wrote APR or GIAC on my bum it would have gone quicker

I think us mk1 peops dont post alot because we already know all the problems with the blighters and already know how to fix it... and if we dont know how to fix it, grab all you mates, a few beers and stand around the mk1 looking at it until someone has an idea. Then say you'll do it tomorrow

Andrew may very well have a point here.

The MK1 is very different from a MK5 and the posts will be too however I can't help but chuckle at some of the differences between the types of posts. Don't mistake my comments for hostility, it's just funny because of how different the cars are.

Rather than try and figure out why there are so many posts in the MK5 section let's figure why there are so few here and address the issue. If indeed it is an issue at all.

One reason I see is that a lot of the MK1 stuff is over in the projects section and in various other sections, the MK5 commentary by comparision is largely contained to the one section.

Personally I don't think the total post count is an indicator of much except that there are now more MK5s on the road than there are MK1s.

All good Andrew, just a bit of a light moment. No hostility here from us at all You are stuck the fence though! you've got both a mk1 and a mk5!

Pete is right, totally different cars lead to different forum posts. I would think that we are completely different cross sections of the community also, not many mk5 owners also own a mk1 and vice versa.

              quality verses quantity maybe?

I think you'll find there are also alot of more mk 5 members than there are mk 1 memebers. and remember the restoration and project thread is practically dedicated to mk 1's as well.... ok so it's not the biggest section in the forum either but meh.

                This thread makes me larf:
                - How to change a light bulb
                - revers mirror dip function

I think thats what makes the difference in the post count and that there is so much stuff on the net already for mk1s.

This thread is a bit pointless, we all know how we all feel about mk5ers its just not nice to say it

Geez Spyder, you arent a real nice fella eh.
Might have to cancel my trip to the DOVW if you are serious there...

Actually a lot of the threads in the other sections are repeat topics that could well be avoided if members used the search function...

                    Oh well, dem's the kicks.

                    to the OP:

how is it that the mk 1 section is actually not pulling it's weight? have you ever asked a question that's never been answered? I do believe that this section is full of answers to all the questions, so i'm pretty sure it's pulling it's weight, and not letting any 'side' down, regardless of how many posts there are in here.

Precisely the lack of posts proves it is nailing it.

I can't work my bluetooth when my phones turned off can someone help please?

I think this thread was made because back in the day the mk1 forum was the biggest now not the case.

This thread is ridiculous...was the OP bored one night and decided to get grumpy about an OBVIOUS difference in posting quality between the mk1 and mk5 forums?

If you have nothing nice to say, then just don't say it. I don't think anyone should whinge about what the mk5ers write because that will probably just induce whinging about the mk1ers. A lot of people's opinions here *might* be true, but that's not a good enough reason to preach it and badmouth other members.

                            Someone close this thread.

I think it was all said in jest. That's the way I took it and how my comments were intended. Different cars, different people, different issues. Heaps of new(ish) MK5 owners who have to deal with dealers and want their expensive cars to work properly and get what they pay for (as they should). MK1s are a whole different world as we know.
