The coil is a VW/AUDI option for electric ignitions, and from what i read they dont require a resistor when running electric or points dizzy as they are internal resisted?

The golf is a diesel converted to petrol, and it did have a external white resisitor but i ditched it when i converted the igntion (which was faulty )

You dont want to use the electronic coil for a points type dizzy, it will weld the points in no time at all, do as Pete has suggested and use a bosch GT40 set up.

The electronic dizzy coils are for user with the TCI and hall effect distributors.

Picked up a new water pump to fit soon, got some new points to add in when i get coil. Tried my Chrome bumpers on it, looks funny!! black bumpers all the way for it

Also Temp and fuel gauge stopped working when i pulled cluster out. checked fuse, and all the wiring looks good. any idea's? what to look for?

Nope a plain GT40 is what you're after. (No resistor required.)

GT40R is to be run WITH a resistor.

So got the standard carby back on, and a G grind cam in.
Got it started, but wont idle. and i havnt driven it yet.
Going to wait till i got a new coil to put in, aswell as a timing light, and got the new points in. Then i spend a arvo getting it spot on

Here a couple of pics with its new shoes, and panels. needs a good clean. was sitting under a tree at mums for 2 weeks

                Well she runs well now

Got a stock carby on, G grind Cam, 1.8L and extractors

Alot more bottom end power now without the large cam and untuned weber.
Much more now that it will loose traction rather easy

All to do now is a New Coil, Points, Plugs, Get Exhaust taken up as it hangs too low, and a wheel alignment as im Repping some Epic Dori Dori Camber ahha

EDIT, turns out the coil is faulty, i tried every which way and different leads. nothing
Tried same combos with old coil and it started every time. Hmmm

Well have since added a new dizzy cap, rotor button and some nice new spark leads
Got a stock Coil on for now till my GT40 gets here.

Runs well. Still cant fix the Oil leak fron tappet gasket though, any idea's? Its a brand new rubber one, all one piece. Seems to leak from near the cam wheel and runs down back of block. Ive tried refitting gasket 3 times, and i cant get it right,. On a cork gasket it has the separate Orange rubber bit near cam wheel, the one piece gasket doesn't fit in that groove too well.. .

Not much more now, coil, oil leak, gear box oil leak
                            And exhaust.

i've never had issue with a one piece rubber gasket. Check the rocker cover, maybe it's slightly damaged or out of shape? Also, did you install new studs at the same time??

The other option would be to go back to a cork one, and apply some sealant to stop the leaks.

Just paid a pretty penny for a rubber one, not going back to cork

Cover looks ok, going to try some sealant and see what happens. and yes i changed studs
