They were a universal unit. Came in a few different lengths and widths. I've also seen them on Datsun station wagons and things like that.

The later Cabrio owners manuals have pics of a factory roofbar you could get for the cabrio.

I think it clips to the rails at the side of the windscreen and you could get a surfboard or similar between that and the safety hoop

I have never seen one in real life though.

From memory lawnys car has had a respray at some point so its not like he will be butchering factory original paint anyways? If you decide you dont like them its not a big deal to fill the holes and have the roof painted again. Its only money.

The one thing to be careful though is to make sure they are sealed properly. I had a friend with similar roof racks on his mk1 and he started to have a few rust issues around them.

what about gluing it on with some special glue? Just in case you don't like it later on etc...

    But, looks pretty cool.

if their not coming off and you like them, hammer away mate, those looks crazy and would really be unique to any mk1 in OZ! just make sure you clean them up nice before you put em on, coz itll be difficult to keep em clean

it is 23 screws in total. i know its one of those straight original mk1's that are getting hard to find, but its just going to have to be a straight original mk1 with really cool roof racks on it.

how many screws have to be put through?
personally i loved my racks when i first put them on then got sick of them after a few days. just dont want you to do the same and be left with a butchered roof
