  • Bought a MK1 GTI 1600, lost my mind!!

Lost my mind the other day, drove past a MIDAS in Adelaide and nearly crashed my $1100 Camry. Clocked this MK1 in Mars red, had a look around and it seemed pretty genuine. Engine looks like new compared to a UK one of the same age. It runs well but needs some TLC.

Got in bother by spending 4 hours after work fettling things. Fitted my MOMO wheel, adjusted the brake pedal up to get some leverage. Pull the rear brake drums off. Someone has fitted studs instead of bolts which was strange.

Also has Pirelli wheels on it but only 2 caps, one has a dent in the rim but the tyre is up. I think I'll get some other wheels organised and then have a go at knocking the dent out.

It needs a CV joint but I can suffer that for the time being. The interior fan has gone south too, at least the windows work!

The front panel has had a close run in with a towbar but I have pulled a lot of it out.

A set of shocks probably wouldn't go a miss, even compared to my Camry the handling is a bit duff. Will get the front wheels off soon and have a look and see if there is anything out of the ordinary going on.

Of course you all want pictures which I'll get tomorrow.

    Gavin

              Classified information?

I suppose the price you paid for it is as classified as a President's report on how the war in Iraq is goin'

Having driven it twice now, I have been reminded why I stopped using my last one in 1999 when I got a Corrado.

Comfortable it is not, certainly not a good as my old one but then I threw loads of money at it.

I will probably run this for a while, I need 3 cars so I can take the Audi off the road and not leave the wife stranded at home.

It'll be advertised on here first I reckon when the time comes. There are some jobs that need doing to it when I get the time.

@Loon pretty sure its Pommie although the seats are a funny cloth. Defo a GTI I reckon, Kjet etc ONly nonstd bits to it seem to be the extractors and exhaust.

Have to go back up to work to get it now. I had a job on in Goolwa this arvo and didn't fancy getting stuck in Wup Wup if it broke down. Until I bought it the other day it hasn't done anything for 6 months.

                      The pictures are coming honest.

Took longer than expected sorry, picture will have to be tomorrow now as it's dark outside.

The headlights are **** on the Golf. Another thing that I don't miss about my other one. Will have to make a loom up to sort that out. Like driving on sidelights...
