Nice one Matt.. It's exactly the same shell of my Mk1, with early bonnet http://www.vwwatercooled.org.au/newf...ead.php?t=4831.
btw, what happened to the other Mk1 that you had ?

I've still got my other one, it's still being restored.

This one will be left original and kept tidy as a daily drive

I did not know this either. I had to look at my bonnet to spot the difference. Look at the last picture of the bonnet. There is no "pressed" line along the front edge. On later bonnets there is.

A swallowtail bonnet does not have a crease on it at the front

                Swallowtail ^^^

                Non Swallowtail ^^^

Not the best photo to show what a later bonnet looks like but the best I can find atm. It has a line that goes along the front of the bonnet that connects with the creases going down the sides.

Just gave it a good wash, I'm pretty sure I pulled out about 10kg of dirt out front under the guards!!

Few things are on the list to fix.
                    • Polish
                    • Straighten bumpers
                    • Fix brakes, they don't feel 100%
                    • Change suspension, feels really soft/shocks feel stuffed.
                    • Fix Ignition switch
                    • Fix 1/4 vents
The most urgent thing is to fix the 1/4 vents, they are taped up atm. Anyone got a good set or a set of sealed ones?

                      oh..its a LS not a GLS

jeez GLS are rare to find.

but your mk1 is looking good. Polish her up and she will be tip top

Great find dude! I knwo you'll take good care of it.

You don't need to get another set of 1/4 vents.

Clean the surfaces right up really really well (REALLY WELL!).

-Scrape all the crap off with a razor blade or similar.

-Get some acetone and clean the surfaces right up spotless.

-Then get some sycaflex (i can't remember which is the best but your local Auto1 etc should be able to help you there..) and you'll just need a dob right in the middle and sqeeze the two together.

-Put a little G clamp on it over night

..... And she'll be sweet as.

Not quite following you Preeny, is that to reattach the window the hinges or to seal the 1/4 shut?

Strange problem with the headlights, thinks it's due to the dodgy ignition switch. The headlights come on when you turn the ignition of but after some fiddling with the ignition on and off they stop. I look out the front last night and my lights are on and now my battery is flat!!

The ignition switch is faulty and has been bypassed with a push button start, certain that is the cause of my problems I have one sitting in the garage I will throw in tonight.

                                Anyone had a similar issue?
