  • New arrival.

    It's a 1980 4 door GLD.

About a year ago I got an email from a chap asking if I'd like to have his father's MK1 for wrecking when they found him a replacement.

I'd long forgotten about it but they contacted me during the week and drove it over and dropped it off.

I didn't really expect much of it from the descriptions they'd given me but it appears to be entirely rust free.

Mechanically it's thouroughly worn out. Motor's got massive blowby, brakes are nonexistant and the shocks are shot. The interior is pretty buggered too. The dash of course is extensively cracked.

At this stage I plan to move all the bolt on panels accross to my own Mars Red MK1 pictured on the left below as there's no rust in any of them and the paint is in much better condition.

The diesel suspension will go into the race car as will the fuel tank.

If anybody would like a rust free 4 door shell or any diesel motor parts you should speak up soon.

The motor starts and runs but lacks power and blows oil out the dipstick.

I have way too many cars now.

GOOD! It's better than them all getting butchered. It's great to see them in your hands.

Thats a good score, all the panels the same colour
Maybe you could put all your tired panels on the shell and give it to a young bloke as a project?

Good onya Pete, I am just wondering where all these Mk1s are turning up from??? Seems to be a lot sourced lately around the eastern Oz region.

Rolling ash tray. Not game to peek under the seat covers.

Headliner is grimey with diesel soot.

Door cards have speakers cut into the front doors, backs are OK, but I have more good ones if you need them.

All the diesel stuff bar the block itself seems to work OK.

They're both Densal brand and one's got a chip out of it. I wouldn't use them on the road, they're all yours.

I was hoping for a nice tan interior, but alas, not to be. no worries. Mines plenty neat enough as anyways.

I do actually need a screw from one of the rear doors though...

                            Hi Pete

I notice in your engine photo that the rubber hose from the air intake goes down in FRONT of the engine? I have an 11/78 GLD and the hose from the air intake goes into the top of the engine/ crankcase???

Do you know why they would be different? I have read about a mod that was done to prevent blow by (sp) however mine car may have not been modified at all which is a bit of a worry!

                            Thanks

                            Gary

My diesel is also as your's seems to be.

I saw this setup today while I was at Petes, also seemed to be connected to the vaccum pump. Pete Did mention some extreme lack of compression issues meant this one was hard to get moving under its' own steam. It's possible it had blow by issues as well.
