When car is hot, feel the bottom radiator hose. if its not hot, the thermostat is jammed closed.

sometimes the thermostst restricts the flow a bit to much but is not jammed a drill and a couple of holes tend to fix it i think im having this same problem just havent had the time to check also blew a brand spanking waterpump.

Just chopping the middle out of the thermostat gives good results. Slows flow, but not too restrictive.

Its not gonna matter in QLD atm, but I reckon in Tassie you`ll want a thermostat still.

ok, pipe not hot, AND radiator has a leak somewhere at the bottom (not from piping) AND the cap doesnt seal off, id imagine that would be my problem. and i just bought a new radiotor but accidentally sold it with my last car!

A raiator cap will always cause overheating at idle ect. on a Golf. Simple

Just rip the thermo out and drive the car.... thats what I do and its sweet... cheaper than a new radiator!
