sometimes the thermostst restricts the flow a bit to much but is not jammed a drill and a couple of holes tend to fix it i think im having this same problem just havent had the time to check also blew a brand spanking waterpump.78 Mk1 Golf

Just chopping the middle out of the thermostat gives good results. Slows flow, but not too restrictive.
Its not gonna matter in QLD atm, but I reckon in Tassie you`ll want a thermostat still.sigpic Camden GTI Performance. VW / AUDI Specialists
