No pics yet, I damn well forgot to take my camera when I went to "meet" my Caddy. I will definately get some tomorrow and try and pop em onto the forum. I didnt bring my laptop and am borrowing someone elses computor to check in when I can. I had to do a fair bit of work on it and I also pretty much stripped the donor TC Passat. Been a little crazy over the last 2 days and frantic getting the pink slip plus the permit to drive it home. Thanks for the kind offer of help with that Matt (Loon), I really appreciated the offer this morning, all sorted now. I will be driving it tomorrow .
And thanks Mischa, It would have been good to meet you while I am up here.
The back of the Caddy is loaded to the roof with stuff and with the weak rear springs it certainly doesnt need lowering. its sooooo low now it looks like a dinky toy. The grill makes it look skinnier than the normal Golf too.
It is going to be very disorientating driving it as its very different inside to a normal golf and also LHD. You Melbourne fellas that see it wont believe it.
It had better get me there first though....

      Hi Andrew,

Was great to catch up with you and Kathy (spelling?) last night, Angela enjoyed it also, it's a pity we live so far apart but rest assured we will get to Tassie some time soon for a return bout.

You wouldn't believe me if I said I've just got back from Jouliana's again, (told you we had paid for their kids education already) the stepdaughters ganged up and conned us into going there again tonight! Angela had one glass of wine, I was forced to drink the rest of the bottle as the girls are both on the wagon, we were then served complimentary limoncellos (lemon liqueur, rocket fuel) which the girls promptly shoved in front of me, and I had already ordered an affogato (shot of coffee, serve of ice cream and a shot of Sambucca) so in short I'm feeling quite pissy now! Needless to say the girls drove us home!

Good to see you have got all the paperwork sorted, hope the drive home is less eventful than my typing this post whilst under the influence, you have no idea how many times I have edited this post already!

I look forward to catching up again in the near future and look forward to seeing the progress of the Caddy.

      Cheers

        Ha ha mate!!!
I dont blame you, its a top eating place and very friendly service too.
Always good to catch up with fellow VW enthusiasts from the forum and as I have said before, we enjoyed the company. Thanks. Your turn to visit Tassie next time!
I managed to drive it to Pennant Hills (Penno?????) this afternoon which was an experience. Got it into 5th gear once for about 3 seconds but its so tall the ute nearly stopped. Its very loaded up at present but on the Hume with a tailwind it should be ok on friday. Hope so anyway!!! Got a lot of looks in it already, I felt selfconscious stopping at traffic lights sitting right next to the footpath near looking pedestrians. Been pretty warm here so its windows down all the time too!
Its a very weird car to drive from the LHS. The seat doesnt go back as far as a normal golf, it seems narrower inside as well with the tan and woodgrain different dash as well. The suspension is a bit how ya going but it should be easy to transform when I get it back to the workshop.
The radio works on the same frequency as in Oz and so thats a bonus!!

          Happy New year Andrew.

So pleased to hear that the wabbit is able to get to Hobart under it's own steam (so to speak), and you got the red tape sorted.

LHD is cool eh? I remember when we were in China last year, and the first time I had to ride in a LHD taxi.....I sh*t myself when we pulled out onto the road. I was so dis-oreintated.

Sounds like that 5th gear will give great fuel economy...if you ever get to use it!

            Using Doms puter,
Well, made it to Doms in Melbourne ok.
Used 5 litres of oil on the way though and will need some more tomorrow before we go to see Golfworx. It was a looong day with anything like a hill getting the speed (?) down below 70 km/h and top speed on one long downhill I saw 112 km/h!!!!
Pics tgo come when I get home.
No doubt we will get some pics tomorrow...
            Cheers, Andrew

                            • Well, all good, the Caddy is sitting in my driveway now and will be going to the workshop this arvo.
I emptied out the last of the 3 (!!!!) 5 litre oil packs into it halfway down Tas.
It actually got better in performance on the way home too. Its travelled many thousand Kms from California to its new home down here.
It was a very comfy ride as well but very embarasing in traffic with the smoke. I got a lot of horn blows and thumbs up between Sydney and Hobart on the highways but I didnt see any in the stop start traffic cause of the smoke! The police didnt trouble me at all either.
I will be sorting out some new handbrake cables asap too!!
                              Cheers, Andrew
