Thanks Jarred, I'll keep an eye out for some. Anyone got a set?

I don't why they changed the design from the beetle to the golf. My beat up old bug never had a problem with them - loved them. But a weak spot on the Mk1.

      • Does anyone know what is needed to change to quarter vents over to ones from a cabby? Do you need to change the seals to a different type?

        Cheers.

          • I have a long list of jobs to do on the car (and the other vehicles in the household), but some things have to be redone on a regular basis. Yesterday I refitted the GTI spoiler - unfortunately a regular job, as it has a bad habit of hitting driveways and the like. (maybe I should return it to factory GTI height)

Also fitted a new hose from the thermostat housing to metal pipe and a new metal pipe. Bit of a fiddle but hopefully no more little leaks

            • Lowered it a little more.. looks awesome.

              Having the interior retrimmed.

Just removing door cards ready for retrim in black vinyl.

              Will post pics.

EDIT: what central locking kit have you got?

I've decided to get one for my mk 1, ones off ebay normally go for about $50 odd bucks.

                        • Jarred,
How hard was it to fit the central locking to the Mk1?
Which kit did you end up getting if you don't mind me asking...

                          Cheers

                          • I got the one from repco, 60 bucks on special. pretty sure they're the same as the kits off ebay.

install is pretty straight forward, just a little fiddly trying to get to some of the bits, and requires a bit of out of the box thinking sometimes.

I had to (well I did) remove my front seats to hide the wiring under the carpet. In the end I could only get 1 clicker to work (not both) and there kit was lacking a few screws, but apart from that, seems pretty good so far. Lack of instructions made it a little difficult to get it to work, but I think I got it in the end. took me about 4 hours. That included alot of fiddling around including swapping bits from other cars. now that I know how to do it, probably about 3 hours, 2hrs for a 2 door.

Don't know if it was worth it yet, cause I havn't driven it yet, but I'm pretty sure it was!

                            • Took it in for a service and for a few other things including having the brakes relined, tie-rod replaced, and wheel bearing looked at/fixed. Hope it's not gonna involve too many $$$
