  • Changed the alternator belt today...

Turns out that the mechanics forgot to tighten the alternator when they repaired it...
The first time it spat the belt off, it damaged it... Spat the old belt off another 4 times before I got to the shop (4km) to buy a new belt...

Can't really blame the mechanics though...
The lady that booked the car in told them that she couldn't pay before they completely finished the job...
So I paid the bill, and bought the car off of her at a reduced cost...

I put 450mm ones on both sides, but next time I think I'll put a 400mm on the left...

Still waiting on the supplier to get back to me about the peloquin 80% thrust kit (which just so happens to contain the seals that I need)...
Still haven't ordered the reverse light switch, an interior light, and apparently now, a right hand steering rack boot...

        • Spent some more time cleaning it up prior to the rego check...

Steam cleaned the engine bay to get rid of most of the oil / dirt. Came up fairly nice.
Cleaned the paint off the front indicators.
Repaired the knob on the drivers window winder.
Moved the boot light into the cabin so that there is a door light.
Put a lower seat cover to 'repair' the small hole in the drivers seat.
Put a floor mat down to 'repair' the small hole in the drivers foot well carpet.
Cleaned out the reverse light switch and it now works again.
The flange seals have fixed themselves... Yippee...
The engine oil leak looks like it was mostly over pour, well that and an ever so slightly leaking sump plug, which I tightened.
Lubed and adjusted the clutch cable, so that's a little better to use.

So, as far as I can tell, it's just the CV boot and the steering rack boot to go...
          Damn post being too slow...

It has it's change of owner rego check tomorrow...

My CV boot and Steering Rack boot arrived today... So I put them in the car... On the front seat... lol.
I will need to fit them after the rego check, and then get it re-checked...

              • Car had it's check...

Both front seats failed due to excessive movement...
                Both boots failed (expected)...
Clutch firewall repair plate was cracked...

Spent all night fabricating a new repair plate, and fitting both steering boot and cv boot...

Both seats will be coming out early tomorrow to be 'repaired' so the car can be re-tested before lunch...

                • Seat runner plastics have had a 1mm spacer (piece of an old credit card) put between the top of the seat bracket and runner.
The seats now have no movement in the base, and slide back and forth very nicely...

Oh yeah, and the car has now passed rego...
                  Yay...

                    • Thanks Jarred.

                      Whoo Hoo...
Car is now in my name...

Just re-read my description, and realised that it didn't read very clearly...
I cut thin strips of credit card.
I then put the thin strips between the metal foot of the chair, and the inside of the plastic feet that run inside the runners.
Obviously this only works if the plastic feet aren't broken...

                      • Cool, that'll work.

You can still buy the plastic feet too, there's always some on ebay.

In my previous race car I cut aluminium strips to go under the feet.

I made them longer than the feet and bent them up at either end to keep them in place.

                        • Having just gone back to the UK to retrieve the replacement radiator from my parents house, I figured I should get it installed.

So, no more coolant pissing out everywhere. For the time being.

Now, to sell the car before something else breaks...

Opened up the headlight switch, and the wirewound resistor had melted near the end.
Cut off the 3 melted coils, and reattached the remaining coils and now it works perfectly...

                            • I removed the main support for the gearbox linkage, and fabricated a new bushing out of 2 pieces of a 12mm nylon chopping board...
It's still a little tight, and I haven't quite got the linkage correct, but it is SOOO much better.

No longer is it a bowl of porridge feeling with guess a gear selection...
