Hi Peeps,

I'm after a rear hub nut for a 1991 VW Golf (Cab), part No N01-116-71 which is a M16 nut with 1mm thread. The only ones available are in Melbourne and at least 3 days away. I've asked Pete from Mk1 Mechanical.

That’s a tough spot — waiting on parts when you want the car back on the road is frustrating. A couple of points that might help in the meantime:

• Local fastener/auto engineering suppliers (M16x1 fine).
• VW/Audi wreckers (many ’80s–’90s models used same nut).
• Temporary only: standard M16x1 nut + thread-locker (replace ASAP).

If you absolutely have to move the car before the right nut arrives, you could use a standard M16x1 nut (with sufficient strength grade, e.g., 10 or 12) and thread-locker, but this should be considered a short-term emergency fix only. The proper self-locking nut is important for safety.
