How deep do you need to go. Is it down on compression? -
You will save about two thirds of an engine rebuild cost by doing the dismantling and rebuilding yourself if you have the basic tools and skills and only have to pay for parts and specialised machining. How many parts and how much machining is needed, needs to be determined. Some can be done before dismantling with compression and leak down test for example and other diagnostics but all requires detailed examination on dismantling to confirm the work required.
