    Hi all,

I’m currently in the talks with a gentleman who has a Mk1 2door.

He believes it’s a GTi but I have info on the vehicle and need someone who can help me out with the information.

I have a chassis number and the year of the car is 79 but I don’t know much about what the rest of the numbers mean.

    Anyone who can help???

Post a link or pictures if possible.
Heard one going around, just a shell, owner thinks it's a GTI but it isn't.

I hope this works. But regardless, I’m still VERY interested.

Yep found the original post on FB, it's not a GTI.
Previous owner had it for 10 years also confirmed it was not a GTI.
He has this posted on gumtree for double the price before, looks like he's dropped it.

No idea what the rest of the cars condition is, but looks like a lot of work.

I spoke to the guy who has it now over the phone, and apparently there isn’t much rust at all. Some of the usual spots.

But the rust is the last thing bothering me unless it is really, really bad. I’m looking at using the golf for my own fabrication business and eventually have it as a daily/show type vehicle as well.

Do you think $2k is to much and if so, roughly how much would you reckon I offer the guy, as I will be driving down from ACT to go and get it.

My aim is to figure out as much as I can about the vehicle and maybe try bringing it back to original colours or as close as I can to it with only a few bits and pieces of more modernish upgrades like motor, and interior a little bit etc.

By memory that car was pretty rusty on FB.

              - floors
              - raintray
              - A-pillars
              - fuse box

Damn it, and I spoke to the guy on the phone hoping he would be honest(as I assume many of us would)

But did get confirmation from a gentleman in sydney that the vehicle is not GTi. I was however very interested since it’s a 2door.

But I have a guy just down the road from my work who is willing to let a Mk1 4door go with a full Kamei body kit for $1500.

Do you think that is a better option.

The 2 door tintop is the most desirable but the 4 door isn't far behind and $1500 is a good price if there's not much rust.

Have you given Nick out at Bungendore a call - 0412345126 ? He used to have a few MK1 (2 doors) rusting away on his property.

When you get one make sure you post it on here.

There's a few MK1 guys in Canberra and we try to get together every few months to tell lies about our cars.

                    Cheers

                    Paul

As much as I would have loved the two door, there are some people who gave me info on rust situations that’ll take some time to repair and it’ll be money spent that could be otherwise utilised.

So I have decided to get one of the 4door golfs from a guy just down the road from my work.

And I feel a 4door could be of much more use(having friends in the car) than the 2door.
