  • Turbo in the TDI

Does anyone know exactly which turbo charger (brand & model no.) that comes with Aus delivered 2.0 TDI's?.

I've heard that it's a Garret VNT17?? also heard it could be a Borg Warner?

Ive tried the mirror on the end of a stick technique to try to get a look at the serial number....but it's too tight back there.

It should be a VNT-15. I have have some (bad) photos of mine below:

Apologies for the bad image quality but it is very hard to get your hand behind the back of the engine...

I found a listing of turbo types and part nos for all VW models (another ?identical version from different site). Presumably the listings by engine type code with OEM part nos are correct.

According to that, the AXR engine (1.9 TDI 74kW) as in my Polo and Golf has a K39 turbo.

AXR engines in some other VW models (Beetle, Bora) have GT1749V turbos.

FAI - Garrett, Honeywell, Borg-warner - all the same company.

So the GT1749V turbo is a VNT15 correct?

According to this post the GT1749V has a little bigger compressor than the VNT15.

I thought Honeywell Garrett was a separate company from Borg Warner (that bough kkk). There was some legal action over patent infringement of variable vane turbos resulting in large sums of money flowing from Borg Warner to Honeywell Garrett. I think they are not the same companies.
