My jetta TDI 103 came with one of them plug and play tuning boxes. plugs into injector loom and away you go.. controls power via a 1 to 10 switch on the box.. 10 pulls the tyres apart and 1 is crap. now have it on 6. would NOT recommend one unless you get one free.. only reason i have it still is because it was already on the car and dont want to spend money on a bluefin.. power good but not smooth at all. all or nothing on throttle at 1800rpm and DSG hates it! lol... I have a thread too that you can check out but I would defiantly look at Greg Roles threads ( look up any starting with the words let the tinkering....) as I believe he has taken the TDI's to a tuning level past the usual re-flash and air filters that most of us have done.2007 Black Magic VW Golf GT TDi, Latte Leather, Sunroof, Bluefin Superchip, 18" Detroits, APR lower torque arm insert, APR Carbon Fibre Cold Air Intake system, GTi sideskirts & front lip, R32 Rear Bar, GTi Steering wheel, RNS-510,Infinity BassLink Subwoofer, stubby antenna, R8 Oil Cap, Golf R front calipers, slotted front rotors, ceramic brake pads, LITEC LED tail-lights, Dension Gateway Five, Rear Emblem Reverse Camera, H&R Ultralow coil-overs, Badge-less front grille

I have tuned lots of TDIs, all go great afterwards. They use less fuel if you aren't booting it everywhere and generally don't make much extra boost over standard.

Best thing you can do is get a decent re-flash. Tuning boxes, even the best ones are crude, rough, dangerous and ALWAYS produce less power. Only good if there is absolutley no other option. Bluefin and Oettinger are "generally" milder tunes, there are absolutely better ones out there. That said it's dangerous to take the MKV 103 past about 125kw, the inlet impeller on the turbo can shear off thanks to surge.
Any MKV 125kw, or MKVI diesel has a DPF, a particle filter in the exhaust. This prevents you altering the dump pipe, and also limits the tune level as it will load up with soot too quickly on a max tune. As an example where a stock / medium level / stage 1 tune will fill a DPF in about 800kms, my max race tune, whilst HSV embarassingly impressive, loads my DPF in about 400kms. This will shorten the lifespan, but I have "heard" you can wash them out : )
Cat backs and intakes do very little, but are fun to do. Keep your air filter clean, run good diesel, fit a catch can or do an inlet flush every so often - ONLY use diesel specific inlet cleaners as a diesel will redline on most anything sprayed in, and keep the fuel filter replacement up. Run Moreys smoke killer or a similar lube like a small amount of 2 stroke oil.
Prey some goose can perfect the "sports DPF" if you are so afflicted.2014 Skoda Yeti TDI Outdoor 4x4 | Audi Q3 CFGC repower | Darkside tune and Race Cams | Darkside dump pDPF | Wagner Comp IC | Snow Water Meth | Bilstein B6 H&R springs | Rays Homura 2x7 18 x 8" 255 Potenza Sports | Golf R subframe | Superpro sways and bushings | 034 engine mounts | MK6 GTI brakes |

The MKV 103kw has no DPF and limited injector issues. Has a ceiling on tuning though because of turbo, and ability to handle heat produced with higher boost.
The 125kw is a much more tunable engine with a lot of upgrades from the factory, but is sadly limited by the DPF, and dodgey injectors in MKV guise, but part of a recall now.
Any MK6 has a DPF, but obviously a nicer newer car, and common rail, which is much more DPF friendly, better off boost, and has a second gen DPF anyhow. Still limited by the DPF for tuning though.
A 103kw / 320nm can go 125-135kw and 410 or so nm. Nice jump.
A 125kw can go 150 plus kw and 450 plus nm. Again a nice jump.
Much harder to go big turbo and deal with the DPF issue legally in the 125kw, much easier in 103 form.
Depends on your needs, budget and ultimate goal. In reality the tuned 103 isn't THAT different to a tuned 125, as the torque is fairly similar and real world performance on a tune only is closer than you would expect.2014 Skoda Yeti TDI Outdoor 4x4 | Audi Q3 CFGC repower | Darkside tune and Race Cams | Darkside dump pDPF | Wagner Comp IC | Snow Water Meth | Bilstein B6 H&R springs | Rays Homura 2x7 18 x 8" 255 Potenza Sports | Golf R subframe | Superpro sways and bushings | 034 engine mounts | MK6 GTI brakes |

I get a lot of comments about the skoda - almost always positive, but they are still something of a curiosity for 99% of the population i think'07 Touareg V6 TDI with air suspension
