  • Anyone had problems with DPF?

My cars seems to love visiting the dealership...B7 Passat TDI.
When DPF light came on took it for a long drive on the freeway, however the light never cleared.
So back to the dealer. They ordered a new ECU but it will take a couple of weeks to arrive.
So they reset current ECU and we took it home. Car sounds strange. It kept doing regen (fan running on shut down)
Took it on long freeway drive to help it finish regen. But no after hour of driving still doing regen. Drove car again and ping DPF light came on. Back to dealership. They disconnected sensor to troubleshoot and regen still going. Now they are checking for exhaust leak..
could it be the caused of continuous regen
Anyways Im leaving my car with them until the new ECU arrives. They reckon also the Regen is not finishing hence why it keeps going..hence why new ECU is required.

Anyone had issues with DPF??care to elabore and give me their experience whether VW can really fix the problem.

you should do a search - plenty of info about dpf related troubles in the forums.

If I were you I would try a different dealership or an independent specialist mechanic. Replacing the ECU seems like the last thing I would be trying. There are known issues like exhaust pressure sensors, overfilling the oil, using bad fuel and such that should be investigated first.

Furthermore, the radiator fan running on is not necessarily proof that the car is in regen mode - its only proof that the coolant temperature is quite warm, or that the sensors are telling the fan control unit that the temperature is warm. All VAG vehicles will have radiator fans running on after shutdown if they are hot.

Car still out of action and with dealer.

Update: They found the exhaust leak between the manifold and DPF. Replaced the gasket and still the leak is there.

          Hi,
my experience with DPF and VW. Go else where to get it diagnosed if you can.
If under warrewnty, VW is likley to bandaid repair it, hoping it will last warrenty.
Mine did not last warrenty, only about 70000Km. Vw refused it under Warrenty
saying its a consumable. Australian Govt. Department, such as Consumer affairs
forget it. Too hard for them, Typical of recent Govt's. Once you start having trouble,
you probly will have continuing issues.
Best thing is to remove it, but thats not allowed either and they have been alleged
to cause fires in some cases. Replacment is expensive.

Thats odd, I swear I've heard the DPF is guaranteed to last at least the warranty period.

              Update:
According to VW to the mechanic - just pull the exhaust and manifold apart and put it back together. So thats what they did. The service advisor took car home overnight and reported the problem is gone. The DPF light has not come up and teh regen seems to be completing. They are still doing some test on it and only change they did was the gasket

Had the car back for a week and now another bloody light is on..according to manual its a catalytic converter fault!
arrgg!!! when will this problems stop. Lucky for me I decided to keep the loaner until the specified return date which is next week.
