Well I have a GTI front and rear valence ready to go on, just gotta pick up some side skirts.. I will get around to putting them on one weekend. Contemplating an APR intake still as well.. New tyres soon so might end buying some springs too.

i wouldnt bother with the intake, spend your money on the springs or something. valances and side sirts will look awesome ! dont be scared to go springs, ive had mine for a coupe of months now, doesnt scrape with people in it unless you hit a bump hard. and the ride is actually still pretty nice.

well have to organise a meet up again soon!

Looking good but I would colour code the door handles and that rear lower bar.

Not sure if it was jazd or lowtdi - but i was next to one of you a few weeks ago along Maitland Road, Mayfield. I was in our current "daily", a lovely 95 Corolla so no doubt you were checking out my awesome ride too! haha.

I will be selling the Corolla at the end of the year and looking to get a Golf TDI to replace it. I want a diesel because my girlfriend works in Sydney and commutes several times a week (she normally does do 800-1100km a week). The little Corolla isn't really up to the task of highway driving.

So i want the economy benefits of a diesel, overtaking power / torque as well, with the refinement and quality of a VW. There seem to be quite a few 103kw TDI's around for around the $15k mark - but bugger all TDI GT's with the more advanced 125kw motor.

How do you find your cars reliability wise? And what kind of litre/100km do you get out of it on the freeway?

I've had a GT Sport TDI for 3.5 years and other than the dreaded injector issue affecting that motor only, mine's been bullet proof.

I've put 120k on mine and it's as good as the day I got it.

Quite possibly me, I drive that road quite often. What colour is your R? I have seen a couple on Maitland Rd.

Pretty good so far, the injector issue hasn't bitten me *yet*. I had one issue with a exhaust pressure sensor failing but that part was known to fail and has been replaced with a new part number. This sensor is only on the GT, its not on the 103kW.

Freeway (120km/h) I get about 6.5 l/100km. Going 80-90 km/h I get more like 5.5 l/100km. Note that my car is chipped but it shouldn't be too different.

My R is United Grey in colour with the silver wheels. I live in Mayfield so might see you every now and then. I only drive it a few times a week as i walk to work.

Thanks for the feedback on the reliability. We are looking to buy something late this year so ill start looking more seriously and test driving in the next month or so.

Ok thanks for the feedback. No doubt the replacement injectors cost a pretty penny too? Does it kill all 4 or does it just affect one or two of them?

Forgive my ignorance on this matter but im trying to make sense of the VW diesel engine range.

                          TDI 1.9 litre
                          Power (kw) ?
                          Torque ?

TDI 2.0 litre single cam 8 valve
                          Power (kw) 103
                          Torque 320nm

TDI 2.0 litre "GT" twin cam 16 valve
                          Power (kw) 125
                          Torque 350nm

Can someone help me out with the specs for the 1.9?

Also, how is the diesel with the 6 speed manual?

All have to be replaced at once as well as the wiring loom. From most accounts VW will cover the entire cost or most of it even when the car is out of warranty.

                            eg. from today:

Are you looking only at the Mk5? I thought the 1.9 was SOHC 8v and the 2.0 103kW was DOHC 16v.

Yes im looking at Mk5. I think the 1.9litre is the same 77kw/250nm as used in the Polo. If so ill pass on that motor and aim for the 2.0litre with 103kw (GT's are out of my price range unfortunately).
