Those areas indicated are melted seems - its a method of bonding ( ie glue ) the grid to the MAF. You need to break these or cut them off with a sharp knife - no way to remove it otherwise. Refer back to my posts about how I did it and just follow my instructions.

Decided to buy one of those VW rear emblem Reverse Camera's for my car.



As far as Im aware it was an option on the Mk6 Golfs but it can be made to fit an Mk5 and to work with the RNS510 head unit. Bought mine from Car Systems.Pl . They sell a lot of these on Ebay but its seems to be cheaper buying direct from their website

Be warned, this is not a plug and play kit - its quite a lot of work installing these, there is sheet metal to cut, lots of trim panels to remove, a bit of electrical work, vag-com programming, you will need to remove one of the arms off your existing wiper motor and depending on which kit you get you may have to create some wiring looms.
I would seriously look into getting a quote from a pro to get this installed and weight up whether its worth it- I know in Adelaide that Forum member Transporter can do this for you. I decided to try and do it myself using this link as a guide

However, it still took me a good 5 hours,lots of swearing and quite a bit of research on the net to figure out how this particular kit works and how certain trim panels come off.

The kit that came from Carsystems said it comes with a plug and play loom. This was not quite the case, there was still a Reverse Trigger lead that I had to splice into my reverse light loom ( other kits seems to include a loom for this ) , a ground lead that I had to ground and then I had to run the constant 12V lead all the way to the front of the car and connect it to the fuse box. Some websites say you can connect to any constant 12V source but I actually decided to run an extra circuit in the fuse box and connect a 20A blade fuse to it. The kit did not come with a fuse so I had to buy this and although it did include a drain tube, it was too short for the Mk5 and I had to buy some longer 5mm hose from Bunnings to connect this. The hole in the bottom of the Mk5 boot lid for the drain is also too small to fit the hose so it has to be drilled out.

Happy to report that it works a treat. Must say a big thank you to Transporter for his help in programming the Reverse Camera for me via Vag-Com.

FYI, you need a 10 Amp in line fuse. 20 is too high.

Wasn't hard, it just took a while and like I said its not plug and play.

I got the 20Amp rating from the installation instructions on the ECS Tuning Link I posted however I think you're right 20A is too high.
Not sure if 10Amp is too high either - this link seems to indicate its a 5Amp fuse required

I didn't piggyback, I actually added an additional circuit to the Fusebox - refer to this link to see how its done

Came across an interesting Site - CarStyle4you

They sell custom made switches for a number of cars including VWs. I was particularly interested in getting a custom switch to add to my centre console here -



Ended up buying one of these -



Cost me about $78 delivered which isn't too bad considering a standard button from VW is $65.

I thought it would be cool to incorporate this in the car and function so it opens up my garage door rather than have a loose Garage remote sitting in the cupholder or dangling off my keys . Here's a bit of DIY for anyone interested.

This is my original remote -



Opened up you can see that its just a simple push button switch soldered into the circuit. Just a matter of unsoldering the switch...



...and soldering in a new lead.



At the end of the lead I connected some plugs that I bought from Jaycar.



Reason is that I want to be able to remove the remote in future in case I need to change the battery. I also decided that I would place the remote in a convenient easy to get to area so chose this -



First things first. You need to get at the centre console switches. Just pull on the gearstick surround where it contacts the switch surround and it should just pop off. You can also slide a small screwdriver down to bend the small tabs that hold it but generally a good pull and it should easily pop off. Then you can see two Torx screws holding the switch/ashtray trim



Unscrew these and the whole switch/ashtray trim should lift revealing some looms and plugs beneath. You need to unplug them all.



There should be a white plug for the Traction Control, a blue plug for the Winter Mode, a plug for the 12V cigarette lighter and one small tab holding the whole loom to the tray. Once these are unplugged the whole tray slides out.

Then it just a simple case of popping out the blank switches and popping in the new switch.





The new switch has a piggyback plug that you need to insert into either the original traction control switch or the Winter Mode switch. Doesn't matter which really as all its doing is stealing a power source to run the red LED light in the new switch. In my case I chose the Traction Control Switch.





Then you can connect the last wires from the new switch to the leads that run to the remote. As you can see I passed them through the centre console into the small opening tray under the dash where its now ready to connect to my remote.




Then its just a matter of putting it all back. Essentially reverse procedure of what I've shown. The only issue you'll come across is that the original traction control plug no longer clicks into place as the piggy back is in the way. It simply slides on. its still pretty secure and shouldn't fall off but to avoid any chance I just taped them together.



Once its all back in place it should look factory finish and it even illuminates red like the original switches.

I did a similar thing with the carstyle4u buttons and added a switch to turn my Subwoofer on and off

I used it once climbing a gravel car park in first gear.

pretty sure there would be an ADR on it... pretty sure policing it is non existant with all the BMW and Excels still driving with them on!

The reason it is there is so in heavy fog the cars behind you know which side to pass on especially if you have stopped in traffic... other wise you could be rear ended. In heavy fog that light can save you ass butm how many Aussies would know this about a rear fog light.

I'm not sure if there is an ADR on a rear fog light as my 2010 Mazda CX-7 doesn't have one. I bought it new and it therefore came supplied like that from the factory...

Essentially these will transform your factory yellow coloured low beam lights and the side lights ( also known as city lights ) to a nice crisp white light. The side lights are cool because they have their own in-line resistors so it won't trip any dashboard errors. Here's some before and afters -

My gear shift boot was starting to wear out - don't know if its meant to be leather but it certainly doesn't look like it. Its also very thin.



So I decided to buy a new one. Managed to get a real leather one with some cream stitching off Ebay - look for a seller called TOP GAITERS BOOTS. He sells heaps of them and all in different colours and styles. This one only cost me about $25 delivered.



Only issue I had fitting it was that the original boot is stapled to the plastic frame as seen here -



Now I don't have an industrial stapler so all I did was super glue the leather to the surround, trimmed it and snapped it back into its outer frame. Warning, the new one is much thicker than the original so you will need to trim it well and make sure its lies as flat on the surround as possible otherwise it won't fit back into the outer frame.



Photo of the finished product. Now all I need eventually is a new gear knob as its starting to wear out too - can't seem to find them anywhere so If anyone knows where I can get one let me know.
