well, unless you plan on changing turbo, adding a big FMIC, full exhaust, and maybe a stud kit, i wouldnt worry about getting a 35psi gauge. thing is, because of the way the VNT works, it can hit a very high boost at low revs for a second on surge, but its still a centrifugal compressor. at high flow rates, it cant make much boost efficiently - the temperature goes way up. so although the standard setup may hit high boost for a second, it will stabilise to something more sane rather quickly.... like the 16-17psi that has been mentioned. even when chipped it wont be much more. you cant just expect a tiny little VNT to pump lots of boost, so the re-flash wont up the boost more than a moderate amount.

this is why people end up having to go for a larger turbo when chasing big power gains - the turbo they have just becomes too inefficient (and wears out too fast).

      Thanks for the info.

I have no plans to replace the turbo , intercooler or exhaust system.
Even if I do end up with a re flash, all I would be looking for would be
a moderate gain. I'm not looking for big hp.

I have already ordered the gauge though.
I had to get the 35 psi one as the gauge I wanted is not available in 30 psi
as a mechanical unit. It is available in 30 psi as electric only.

I got the autometer cobalt gauge.
Now all I need is a suitable pod to mount it in.

Been trying to get in touch with SWG motorsports, as they have the pod I want. But so far after 2 emails I have had no response.

      Jason.

hahaha - i run 22psi guage.... gee thats nearly GT levels. wait till i get my t3 on there... if ever
at the end of the inlet manifold right before the head, or straight out of the turbo matey?? I see 32 plus PSI straight out of the turbo...but that's not what's really hitting the valves, which is all I'm interested in.

          cogdoc.

my plan is to tap the pipe after the intercooler.
this should give me a fairly accurate picture of what the engine is seeing ?

as there is always some pressure drop across any intercooler.

does this idea (the tap position) seem like a good idea ?

Yeah, it's where the factory sensor usually is, but there's still more drop through the EGR and throttle flap mechanism, on the golf anyway, so i tapped the actual inlet manifold right before cylinder #4 up one end, so it's as low as it's going to get. Tis a bit scary to tap into this though, so your plan sounds like a good idea.

natively run between 19 - 24psi. After a remap it will only go up around 2-3psi. As the diesel uses an overall tune that ups the PSI as with petrol you can up the boost and remap the fuel accordingly.

rpm on the x axis against boost presure (in KPa) on the y.

i would think... and in absolute pressure too, not guage.
