The Passat that I am looking at buying for the motor has one problem - on long trips it suddenly starts billowing smoke and keeps running (even when the ignition is turned off).
This sounds like the result of massive blow-back (due to worn rings) but the engine was 'reconditioned' 80,000kms ago at a cost of $1200! The owner tells me that the problem is due to a bypass valve or something - just a simple fix.
Can anyone shed some light? Is the engine stuffed? or is it a simple fix?
