Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Frustrated but still love my VW Passat Diesel

Hi guys, hoping you can help me
I have a Volkswagen Passat 140TDI R Line Wagon. Drives beautifully but have issues with the DPF, and now the reductant injector. Ad blue has crystallised around the supply line as can be seen in the attached images. I removed all of the Ad Blue residue so i could see where leak is coming from and its at the end of the supply line.

I do not trust the mechanic who did the DPF regeneration who advise me that to repair this may be one to $1000 - $2000.

    Any advice appreciated
    1. Is this a difficult repair?
    2. Anyone you can recommend in Sydney?
    3. Can i continue to drive short term.
    4. Mechanic recommend i sell and buy a petrol VW. He said too many issues with this engine? To be honest when i bought the car i never knew there was a seperate AdBlue tank - not something you usually research.

I always service the car with oil change every 10k. Frustrated when i drive and there is an issue that needs to be resolved.

    Thanks in advance. David

Have you got your DPF/Adblue issue resolved?

The image after cleaned looks like some sort of solenoid or relay.

I'm intrigued how you went now that we have 2 diesel Tiguans in the house hold

Take your car to Exoticars in North Parramatta. I have been taking my Golf and Passat TDI there for years. They do fair and honest work.

To me, they will probably just replace that part on the end of the hose, that has Ad-Blue leaking from it. Not hard for them.

DPF issues generally arise from the car not being driven far enough. What kind of driving do you do?

If your AdBlue injector is blocked (more likely) or not working then it will cause DPF issues because your DPF will not go into its periodical regeneration mode with a faulty AdBlue injector.

What you need to do is physically remove the AdBlue injector from the exhaust and then you will no doubt find that the injector itself is blocked (the AdBlue liquid crystalises and blocks the injector). Its normally just 1x bolt to remove the injector so you should be able to do it yourself with basic tools and knowledge.

Fix the AdBlue injector issue and then your DPF issues will more than likely fix themselves.

The leak you can see from the feed line is probably because the injector itself is blocked therefore the liquid is finding other ways to escape while under pressure.

Have a look at the Youtube channel ive linked to, he regularly has to clean blocked AdBlue injectors. Im sure he will have a VW or Audi with the same engine as yours in his videos for you to watch: ORileys Autos - YouTube
