Thanks Greg, i generally run Vortex diesel whenever I can.
My son had a TDI jeep and he had all sorts of issues with fuel filters and running issues, the car has gone but i am wondering had he a tank of "bug" as most of his trouble began after runnning low on diesel,

Unless the VW dealer has special equipment or actually removes the injectors and ultrasonics them, I suspect all they did was what you can do yourself with a can of LiquiMoly Diesel Purge from Supercheap for about $20. I hear of people charged $200 for the same thing.

Running BP or Caltex can largely alleviate the need for such drastic measures in the first place as well.

      Just MHO : )
Greg, the dealer service centre has asked me a couple of times before to do the "injector clean thing" and I said yes this time just to see if I could get a straight answer from them. No such luck unfortunately.
On the performance side I can't say that it turned a tractor into a fire breathing beast but it feels a little quicker in the mid-range while having a leg cramp, but these feelings are usually subjective.... We want it to be better ! I didn't expect a lot of extra go or better economy due to always running BP Ultimate or Caltex Vortex plus the Morey's DSK, FD shock treatment almost religiously and I am not an economy driver around town.
Despite my dreadful city driving technique I am still amazed at the economy ( and grunt ) of this terrific little car.

I would expect regular diesel (irrespective of where it's purchased from) not to contain the same additive package as Vortex diesel.

Caltex Vortex diesel should be available at some Woolworths service stations.

Has anyone tried marine 2 stroke oil at 1:200, low or zero ash?
It's been used in diesels for many years to achieve the same thing at a fraction of the cost.

Yes, it has been debated here. There is an old thread somewhere. However, I would use only designated diesel additive suitable for the late model diesels equipped with the DPF.

It's all very scientific these days so I don't dabble in additives any more in modern diesels.

It's still the same old diesel at the pump with less sulphur than it used to have, with whatever additives happen to be added, regardless of the high or low tech engine it's about to be used in.
Some of the additives sold in the auto shops are less than convincing and will never go in my tank, regardless of their sales pitch.

I guess what i'm saying is who knows what's in the additives sold at the auto shops?

They do. For sure in petrol and soon they will start using the diesel additives. Even the owner's manual says use the fuel additive.

How's that with they years of saying don't use any additives?

Stealers will flog anything that makes them money.

But which vehicle owner's manual says to use additives??

                          Yeti manual
                          "Fuel additives
You must not use fuel additives, so-called “flow improvers” (petrol and similar products) in diesel fuel."
                          "CAUTION
It is not permitted to add the various fuel additives on the market, including pet- rol, to diesel fuel in order to improve its flow properties."

                          For petrol engines:
                          "Fuel additives
Your vehicle can only be operated with unleaded petrol, which complies with the standard EN 228 (in Germany: standard DIN 51626 - 1 or E10 for unleaded fuel with octane rating 95 RON and 91 RON or DIN 51626 - 2 or E5 for unleaded fuel with octane rating 95 RON and 98 RON). These meet all requirements for troublefree engine operation. Therefore, we do not recommend the use of fuel additives."

I've definitely saw it in one of the late model VW I've serviced lately, could be Jetta. I will take the snapshot next time.

I wonder if that's a statement the factory would support or just a dealer profit driven statement?

It was in the factory owner's manual, the car was most likely a 12/2013 Jetta TSI.

I'm using the fuel additives in both engines and as long as you use the right one and as intended they do work and the engines are more efficient for longer compared to those who don't use anything in the fuel, do 5,000km per year or even less.
I use even the oil additives when it's needed and in our cars I use Liqui Moly MOS2 or the Engine Protect, right from new.
