  • Diesel additives..... Fyrex Ci ?

    Has anybody used this stuff? http://www.4wdworld.com.au/products/fyrex/index.htm

    It seems that you can buy diesel with it already added at Total brand servos..... http://www.superdiesel.com.au/PR/index.htm

    I was thinking of buying a bottle and trying it out, but if someone has already tried it for no benefit I will save my coin.

    no, i havent tried it.

    From the website :

    "DIESEL FUEL ADDITIVE

    Fyrex® CI is an ashless organic fuel additive which does not contain minerals, metals or alcohol.

    Using Fyrex® CI as directed also:

    * Reduces hydrocarbon and carbon monoxide emissions
    * Cleans up dirty engines
    * Keeps new engines clean
    * Reduces engine wear
    * Reduces soot loading in engine oils
    * Reduces filter plugging, heavy cylinder head sludge, abrasive polishing wear and oil thickening
    * Improves fuel economy 4 - 7%
    * Reduces engine noise up to 15%
    * Reduces black smoke up to 24.5%
    * Improves engine start up
    * Better driveability
    * Faster acceleration
    * More power
    * Reduces injector and valve deposits
    * Exceptional lubricity"

    Sounds a lot like firepower pills. Im guessing they not going to tell us what it is. Sounds like bio except for the improved fuel economy ...

      Like all "additives" the effect seems to be stuff all unless you've an older engine that needs a clean. Funny that they don't mention the fuel "bug" or algae in the tank, which is the only thing that concerns me really.

        Diesel fungus

        It's actually a fungus, Doc... Not an alga. It grows in the tank and produces a black sludge which is the fruiting body of the fungus. This gets dislodged and then is drawn into the fuel lines eventually blocking the filter and stopping the car. I had an episode of this back in the 80's in Perth and it took me a while to work out what was causing the problem. Eventually I cut open a stuffed fuel filter of my GLD and found it absolutely clogged with black goo. I dropped out the tank and had it flushed things were so bad. After that I used a fuel conditioner (if I remember correctly, "Wynns") and the problem didn't recur. This fungus is always around and usually the contamination gets into your vehicle from a poorly maintained servo. Yet again....a good reason to use fast-moving servos, change filters regularly and not to let your tank get low.

          One of the experts on the BP Ultimate forum mentioned draining water off the bottom of the fuel tank regularly (?6monthly) as a means of algae prevention. I thought the water trap was on the fuel filter.

            I was reading the Diesel Power label at a local auto accessories store. It does have a biocide added as well as injector cleaner; lubricity additive but doesn't mention cetane boost.

              There is absolutely no doubt that additives in fuels DO make a difference. Don't ever accept an argument that they do nothing, for it has to be wrong.

              Sometimes there is a benefit sometimes not, and clearly the quantity of additive makes a difference.

              If you add algae to your fuel, it will contaminate your filters and could wreck the diesel pump, injectors and even the engine.

              If you add petrol to your diesel, a little bit won't hurt, a lot will.

              If you add acetone, same thing

              If you forget to add oil to your 2 stroke fuel, will your engine notice?

              And so on.

                  I tried some Fyrex CI, seems to be the goods - mixed at 1000:1, so it is cheap for what it does.

                      Hi mate, come from Maitland am so near your way. Have been using it for just a few tanks but does seem to make a difference in economy & generally feels smoother/quieter (all goes hand in hand I spose). Have a 2004 Pajero but was cruising your site as I like to do & no I do not work or them but I will apply for a job there I think. Sorry - I will leave now
                      Cheers.

                        my tdi has 211xxxkm on it.
                        i got some wynns formula gold high performance diesel treatment, not cheap at $30 a bottle.
                        am doing an oil change, filter, fuel filter and adding this stuff on monday will see how it goes, im guessing due to the age of my engine the combination of all these things should make it run alot better, even though it still powers along.

                        and then on tuesday... revo technik tune
                        thats when the real fun begins.

                            I do the "shock treatment" every 15000k, usually in the tank after the regular service. Last service was 90,000km and I did the treatment at 91,000km. My little baby is running like a dream, though I must mention that I had the VW dealer "injector clean service" done to it. I have run Morey's DSK in every tank at the recomended rate ( 1:600) since the first service (15,000km). So far no fuel problems at all and it goes very well indeed.

                              Big fan of Fuel Doctor because it's fluro green.

                              Big fan of Moreys Diesel smoke killer, for it really does what it says as far as reducing soot.

                              Unless the VW dealer has special equipment or actually removes the injectors and ultrasonics them, I suspect all they did was what you can do yourself with a can of LiquiMoly Diesel Purge from Supercheap for about $20. I hear of people charged $200 for the same thing.

                              Running BP or Caltex can largely alleviate the need for such drastic measures in the first place as well.

                              Just MHO : )
