Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • 7500km first service (indicated by car MFD)?

I'm in NSW and the 7500km service alert has just come on in my Scirocco R. A few questions:
    • Is this a required service (seems lots of opinions here on the forums)?
    • If so what is done and what cost(s) should I expect?
    • Any recommendations for service centres around Chatswood or Castle Hill?

    Regards,
    Shane.

Yes i would definetly get a service done at 7,500km or the 6 month point. 15,000km / 1yr is just too long between services in my opinion for a turbocharged "sports" oriented car.

Not sure who to recommend to you in the Chatswood area as im not from Sydney, but heaps of VW guys on here use Exoticars, BWA Auto and Ramspeed.

If it was me, id just service it myself (only oil + oil filter). My car has 10,000km on it and ive had the oil changed 2 times already.....overkill perhaps, but its cheap insurance for a healthy engine.

My Roc is due for it's 'health check' next weekish - I've got a couple of things to get them to look at. Lucas-R, up here in Lk Macq is there anyone other than Kloster I might consider? I bought it down at Chatswood but not keen on a day down there for the service.

Thanks for the recommendation - I've reached out to Matthew at Camden GTI - very responsive and seems to be looking forward to getting his hands on my Scirocco R - possible stage 1 tune in plan as well

Kloster are the only dealer in Newcastle but I take my VWs to European Car Centre - Home

              Always had good service there.

My advice is to stay away from the Kloster VW service dept - useless service dept and a rip off. I got my car serviced at Audi, my brother works there and i know most of the staff. They were good, and about $150 cheaper than VW. All the mechanicals in our cars are the same as Audi so they have the know how and all the tools/correct oil etc.

I know Ian from Rennenhaus also gets his Scirocco serviced and mods done at Newcastle Audi as he is good mates with the service manager.

Otherwise, as mentioned above, theres European Car Centre at Wickham and also CityWest Automotive in Newcastle that do quite a few Euro cars. We are getting our other car (Mazda3) serviced at CityWest Auto next week actually.

Have a read of these threads for useful info (really no difference between the Golf and Scirocco in this respect):
