  • Scirocco - Noise Generator?

What do you guys know about a noise generator in our cars that make for a sporting sound?

I know pre-2011 GTIs have a noise pipe and now I find that newer models including the Roc may have an electronic sound generator

Golf R , polo GTI, and Scirocco R all have them fitted, it produces sound consistant with revs to give sportier note inside the cabin.

The noise pipe on the GTIs was deleted from the Australian spec - apparently Australian buyers prefer a quieter car? Is the sound generator definitely present on au-delivered cars?

You could unplug it if you like.

Why would you want to turn it off... The sound inside is a real feature....

              Fixed that for you.
Pointless to turn it off though unless you are going to remove it.

Far from fake... Unless the "noise generator" knows you have a tune as the sound inside is completely different now... But I can understand why non Scirocco owners would be jealous...

It's just a speaker that plays a tune in the engine bay based on throttle position as far as I am aware.

Sure the standard exhaust also makes a noise but it is "Assisted" by a speaker, not a "screamer pipe"

I have no need for one becasue the exhaust noise of mine is sufficient enough to be heard by itself.

I doubt very much if it does anything if it is fitted to the Scirocco...the aural ambience inside mine has changed since the tune regardless of throttle position... Not to mention the noticeable blip on downchange when in sport mode... Non of which would be simulated with a "speaker".
That you have needed to change your exhaust to get what the Scirocco has from standard must be annoying...😉

Apparently, the new BMW M5 has the engine sound being played through the speakers.

I thought someone was just taking the piss when I first read it, but...

Though I suppose one upside is that, in theory, you can make it sound like an F1 V8. Yeah!

You do realise that VW would have upgraded the standard exhaust system to a "sports" system at the factory for the Scirocco and it's just included in the price of the new car?

                        See below for a description.

I fully understand that system...so far no-one has been able to confirm it exists in the Scirocco...and as good as VW are I don't thing they are clever enough to have a sound file on the system for when you install a tune...
I am fully able to hear the exhaust not on my car just as easily as you do on yours.. Mine is factory...not that it makes much difference...
