Personally from a drivers perspective I like the sound and am not really sure what all the fuss is about or why anyone would want to remove it. It may well be artificial but who cares, I know I don't.
I think that the ever tightening EU regulations regarding sound emissions from vehicles has contributed to the low levels of engine and exhaust noise, so in order to keep the driver amused without disturbing the surrounds, manufacturers are trying to find ways of introducing more interior noise.

In regards to the artificial nature of the sound, I suppose it depends on whether you're a purist - but then would one prefer the relative silence you get from modern performance engines? These are the questions which plague today's motoring enthusiast...

    But all-in-all, I agree.

From a purist's point of view, it's certainly not something I'd get if it were an option, or brag about to friends. But from a pragmatic point of view, if it's a standard feature and is not detrimental to reliability, I'd just leave it as it is (as if you'd be bothered to go to the trouble of disabling it unless it was causing trouble).

Well, the OP simply asked a question about a legitimate topic which is relevant to his interests. And as a result, we now know a little bit more about our cars.

Nothing wrong with that - share the knowledge.

            Removed mine.
Haven't scan for codes yet, but no CEL. I notice that the cabin is quieter now when engine is under load.

Interesting it being an Audi part. Thought one would make Audis quieter even the sporty ones

Doesn't it just make the Burbel soft popping noise when your on decel? Because I have an aftermarket downpipe on my scirocco and everything got a slight bit louder although that Burbel noise is exactly the same.
                      Just a thought.

no it literally just makes a tone. from low to high. Its actually pretty loud when activated on its own. When i first heard it it was not the sound i was expecting

It's like an amplifier. Just made the existing noise louder in the cabin. But not so much outside

Well mine is gone now as well... I had to lift all the plastic under the wipers to run the power cable for my Sub... I decided to remove it.
As the car is still in pieces at the moment but once it is back together I will take it for a spin to see what the noise difference is... it is only about a 15 minute job to remove it... or replace it.

                              Buzzing sound from front dashboard

Just wanted to know if anyone has experienced this problem with their Roc? I bought mine new and have had this problem since day 1. I took it back to the dealer. There response:

…yeah this happens be ause the resonator near the dash makes frequency extremes that vibrate through the dash. We can de-program the resonator but you will have no exhaust burbles Nd grunts anymore…

I am really peeved. The buzzing is driving me crazy.

Does anyone know any solutions? I will be going to Consumer Affairs soon because I can't beleive VW would make a car knowingly with a buzz associated with the exhaust resonator.

I just read that and had no idea what they were saying.

It could be the soundaktor though.
