Actually that's the first thing I done. I'm usually with the NRMA, they didn't have out on their system yet, so I got a quote for the Golf R, I figure it should be very close to the golf.
Might be able to shed some light (that should be reasonably applicable for most insurance firms).
I work in the IT Dept. of an Insurance Firm. We update our Insurance system directly via Redbook Asia-Pacific (I would wager most firms use Redbook files) daily. As of the 12/01 (ie, yesterday) the Scirocco R DSG & Manual versions appeared in our redbook files:
Code:
VOLK11WE 2011 Volkswagen Scirocco 1S MY12 R Coupe 3dr DSG 6
VOLK11WC 2011 Volkswagen Scirocco 1S MY12 R Coupe 3dr Man 6
These are currently appearing on my firms online quoting system, but are unable to be quoted against (errors due to missing info). This should be updated very soon, a manual process involving our Underwriting division making a decision on rates etc.
So, for most insurance firms they won't be displaying yet, but it is definitely on its way
EDIT: Just confirmed with underwriting that there is no category code for the vehicle yet. We'll have it available today for customers, safe bet the larger insurance firms in the southern states will have it today or over the next few days also.
I got quotes from just car and aami..somewhere between 1.8k - 2k.. its my first time getting insurance by myself, i'm 22 and just got on my fulls. What quotes is everyone else getting?
2012 - Scirocco R Rising Blue DSG
2008 - 2012 Civic FD1 Black
Based on an online quote from nrma;
It's 1.2k at 50k or 1.4k at 58k value.
That is for a privately used insurance though, My Scirocco is a business purchase.
So I will be paying quite a bit more....

You must live in a dodgy area... I just did an online quote with NRMA and at $61K agreed value and $1000 excess it was $871 for the Rocco. Almost an identical price from GIO as well... none of the others I tried listed the Scirocco yet..
It was also interesting that I tried to agree to Business use but as I don't claim the GST on it the car is considered Private Use for NRMA Insurance purposes...
Oh... the NRMA price included a multi policy discount.. still it is pretty good pricing, I am paying close to those $ for my Mondeo XR5.

Yep... but obviously not old enough for AAMI... they are now showing Scirocco but they are after $1243 for agreed value of $49K. I tried to take the value up to $61K but their system crashed several times...and none of the others are showing Scirocco yet.
NRMA and GIO used to be the most expensive for Full Comprehensive but on the basis of this I know where I will be insuring my baby when it gets here...

the excess at 1K (as opposed to 550) also does alter it significantly
I went back and re-did the quote... and....
$61K Agreed Value $600 excess $907.
$61K Agreed Value $800 excess $806
$61K Agreed Value $1000 Excess $789
So all up $118 variance for $400 change in excess.

Isn't it that they replace your car with the new one in the first year, or even 2 years some insurance companies? In that case you could waste your money.
I usually go with the market value in the first year.
