Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

    • Cheers, come over anytime Dom !

Yeah the RS are 5x100, 57.1 centre bore, i've put 1 bolt in which seems OK as they are a good fit on the bore, don't worry i won't be driving it like that, just wanted to see how the offset was and what they looked like, perfect fit.

                      • No big secret ! To get them to flash orange i ended up pin striping the indicator lenses like this

I used Red lens and bulb dye spray paint by a company called 'specialty'.
I didn't want to use this stuff cos it comes out of the can terribly, i found it helped to keep shaking it every 5 seconds but it still squirts out rather than spraying. The best stuff is made by Savage or Foiltech, but i can't find it anywhere in Australia, i ordered some from the UK but customs binned it as you need a liscense to import paint.

I experimented on one of them and found if you build up the layers (about 4-5 coats) you can sand it back with 1200 wet and dry until its flat again. The mistake i made last time i done it was not clear coating them, they faded back to orange in a year or so. This time i used an Enamel based clear coat on them, about 3-4 thin coats, then cut them back with 1500 wet and dry then T-Cut, then Polish.

Hmnn now all I need are some GL/CL tails and match up the blinkers. Where did you purchase the bulb paint from?
