Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Polo 9N3 rear beam bushes

I'm trying to track down some OEM rear beam bushes (sphericals are too expensive) that are better than the turd ones from the factory. The solid SEAT Leon Cupra R bushes Leon Cupra R 1ML 501 541 are meant to fit the Golf Mk4 rear beam and I'm hoping they'll fit the Polo's. All ID's are 12mm my OD is 69.5mm.
Does anyone know the OD and width of Golf Mk4 rear beam bushes?

I wanted to steer clear of solid poly's because of alleged binding. 034 have sphericals for 280 quid! ouch. The void-less solid rubber ones from the Leon Cupra seem like the second best alternative. Seat Cupra R rear beam bushing Kit (Mk4) - KermaTDI but just need to find out the dimensions of them (and other mk4 bushes).

Polo was different to MK4 golf Chassis. Cupra will be the same.

Read up on these before dismissing them. They are't solid.

Righto thanks gav i'll have a read for sure. Awesome gti just got back to me on the 034 motorsport sphericals that they sell. They said that they have an OD of 72.5mm and should fit my rear beam provided I haven't got a "new" rear beam that came out a bit later. They said the beams themselves vary but the bushes are interchangeable between mk4 and 9N3 Polo. I'll keep looking into that though. They said the 034 sphericals aren't sealed/shielded though and so will wear out on the street.
If what they say is true though then those leon cupra solid bushes might fit which gives me something good to fall back on. The engineer just called to say that he's finished the welding/boxing of my rear beam so it'll be good to get everything to do with that underway now and I csn measure the bush voids to see if they are in fact 72.5mm and not the 69.5mm that I've seen quoted for our cars.
          thanks

FYI mine were 69.5mm. I got the 72mm mk4 golf ones first and obviously they didnt fit

well I just got my rear beam back after getting it boxed and measured the bushes and they are definitely not 72.5mm. They are more like the 69.5mm. My beam is off an 06' model. Seans was an 08' so i'll measure his at a later date. The standard ones are appallingly compliant. I could move the bolt with my fingers laterally and there was very little resistance to movement. No wonder it has felt that the rear and the front of the car aren't connected. But it seems that mk4 golf bushes won't in fact fit. Gav I had a look at the poly ones and I see what you mean. They do have provision to flex. The only thing that worries me is not have a press fit outer shell. Have yours been rock solid?

I have powerflex not the polybush brand. No movement. Just grease a little and thump in. the inner sleeve expands them a little and I cant see that they could move.

Thanks Gav. I think I'll go with the polybush that you recommended. I got in contact with Al and he still has them. They're the 44AX part number that's listed for the 9N3 so hopefully will fit.
