Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • 17" wheels on stock tyres?

Don't know too much about tyres/wheel fitment yet so I was wondering if 17" alloys will fit on the stock Continentals that come on the 2014 mk7 Golf?

Was looking at 18" alloys but if getting 17"s will mean I can keep the stock tyres (as I've heard they're pretty good tyres), then I might go for 17" wheels.

    Thanks!

If your stock Contintals are 17" then you can put them on any other 17" rim that has the correct rim width for that tyre.

I assume you've got 225/45r17 and the OEM rims are 7.5" width and the recommended rim width range is 7"-8.5".

Others will know better but on a Golf you should easily get away with 17x8 ET48
