Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Golf MK6/Octavia 1Z Front sway bar installation

OK so whats the secret to changing it?

I couldn't get the subframe low enough to get the stock bar out. looks like the rack is bolted in from the top. is that right? dropped the subframe down probably 100mm but it still wasn't enough to clear it. its possible I needed to twist the swaybar mounts around so it didn't foul on the steering rack.

watched a video of the installation, they make it look REALLY easy haha

I had it on a hoist, plenty of room to move underneath. installed the supaloy anti lift kit while I was there, and a rear sway bar too.

is there a workshop around the ryde area that has done one before that I can take it to for them to install?

    cheers

Just found this by searching. Doing mine on an Octavia. Found I had to drop the whole subframe way down - had the front of the car on stands and the subframe on the floor of the garage. Then found that the sway bar mounts are fixed to the bar. I need new ones to install the H & R bar I got. Sod it.
