Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Lug bolt Plastic Caps not fitting! Mk6 GTI

Hi all, just put on some 19" talladega replicas on my mk6 golf gti - used the same bolts etc. However, the plastic caps that go over the bolts no longer fit, too large! Any solution, will VW dealer have smaller caps?

Sorry if this is a stupid question, first time I have come across this. Thanks

I feel your pain bro, I'm in the same boat, I'm gonna buy some black bolts, they will still look good.

Btw did you find a solution?

Easiest and most common way to sort this out, is to instead of using the stock covers, make your own out of sikaflex. Just squirt it around the bolts in the bolt holes until they are completely covered. Then simply smooth it out. Looks much better.

I had the same issue when switching to aftermarket rims. Ended up getting a set of black covers from ebay uk. A set cost around $25 all up, and fit perfectly.

These are the ones I bought if it helps:

How exactly do you get the Sikaflex out afterwards?

If it has an engine or heartbeat it's going to cost you.

The trick is to spray the bolts/surrounding area with hairspray before applying the sikaflex. Will pop out easily that way. This is how everyone in the states does it
