Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • wheel shop in Melbourne to re drill wheels.

I have a set of 16x7+35 and 16x8+35 work equips, at the moment they are 5 x 114.3 I am looking for someone to fill and re drill these to a 5x100. Who have people used in Melbourne and what did you think of them?

RE: wheel shop in Melbourne to re drill wheels.

I would not like to redrill wheels. If you must use them, then get some adapters.

I have seen alot of people do it Greg so I assumed it must work ok?
Dylan, the will need to be filled and then drilled, although I don't know how it all works exactly I thought they must fill the original holes and then drill new ones?

The whole face will have to be filled by welding, cut back flat both on the face and mounting face, new recess in the face, then new holes drill in the recess. Don't think you would find many people willing to do that.
Dunno if even the likes of rotiform would

It's possible, but potentially you would be more looking at a 'plug and drill', where are bolt hole is dramatically opened up, and a new plug squeezed in, then the new patten redrilled.

Maybe I'll just keep them in the garage and buy some 5x100 wheels

I gotta my te37 redrilled it only cost $50. Wheelmods in ferntree gully they would definitely look after you mate. Btw personally I wouldn’t do adaptors due to the fact at certain speed you feel a lot of vibration.

And then there is this when I asked the Authorities

Can an engineer overule the regs and certify a car to use spacers.
A wheel spacer cannot be engineered in Queensland. The only way to have a spacer/adaptor is if it was released from the manufacturer.

Adapters which are different to spacers are not mentioned. They are bolted to the hub and have different studs for the rim to attach with They also have a center hub to locate the wheel that spacers generally don’t have.
Adaptors are treated the same as spaces even though they bolt to the hub they still result in spacing the wheel face from the hub. Therefore, if they are fitted or mounted to the original manufactures rotor they would not be acceptable

You obviously didn't have hubcentric adapters.

                        Or your wheels weren't balanced.
