Hey guys i want to bring my mk5 to a more stanced height, but i would prefer not to mess around with changing to coil overs, and just keeping it as close to stock suspension wise. So the question is should i get new coils or cut the originals? And can anyone recommend a garage that can do this job locally (Brisi)

Don't dare cut the original ones, that is a terrible idea.
You can get a set of lowered springs and use the same struts for about $300 landed

OP and anyone else that doesn't know....
Springs are slightly tapered and coiled flat either end to hold captive the spring rate and hold the spring in place - it's the stupidest thing to cut this spring anywhere along its length.
That would cause unpredictable shock movement and the spring itself would no longer be captive , promoting the possibility of it catching mid stroke and causing issue or accident.
It's also impossible to properly judge the end result even by measuring coils cut etc
If you must lower it get some high quality springs like eibach etc. even kmac or king springs are a better alternative to simply cutting !Last edited by bennjamin; 27-03-2013, 08:11 AM.

Just ****in' with ya. Save up for coilovers, I went through the same dilemma when I first started modding cars and I ended up going through 3 different setups before finally getting coilovers and being able to dial in a ride height that I wanted.Originally posted by skyliner3495 View Postthanks mate, didnt gather.
