Poly Bushings

Following on from here:

The other thread was getting a little off topic for "Recommended repairers and parts suppliers" section. So have started this one.

I have this rear upper shock mount kit:


and this kit for front control arms:


I also have a heavy duty (rubber) kit coming for the upper front suspension. Considering the originals are now 12 years old is it really a bad thing to replace them with these when putting the coilovers in?

Looking for opinions for a road car with lots of spirited driving if this is a good idea or not?

Going by the earlier thread, I'd say no. If you want new bushes then just get new OEM ones.

If you want I'll take you for a run in my car. I have the black ones from ECS tuning in mine. I think you'll find once you have a squirt you'll feel that they are plenty stiff enough.

Interesting reading on the MK3Love forums, seems there are supporters there.

I'm still scouring the web looking for opinions and any hard information on the poly parts. There is still a week or two till the new coilovers arrive so we will see. I"m interested to see any links anyone else sees and thinks ma be helpfl before then too.

At this stage I will see what condition the stock parts are currently in, although I would hazzard a guess they are still the originals. Since I already have these parts chances are they will end up in the car unless I find something terrible about them between now and then.

I've put the poly bushes in the control arms on the front of one of my MK Is now.

Got to sat it's a bit of an anti-climax. From all those hysterical threads about noises and harsh rides etc I thought the car was going to turn into some sort of howling banshee with the suspension noise drowning out the induction and exhaust noise.

Mostly it's exactly the same as stock. Perhaps with a little more directness in the steering input response, but hardly a dramatic change. No noises at all, same ride as before. If someone installed them in your car and didn't tell you , you might not even notice.

The old rubbers were a bit chewed on the end and would have had a bit of end float making things vague but the were definitely the original rubbers and they were still roadworthy.

I'm just happy that I've got new bushes, I got the Poly ones because there were reasonable easy to get, stuffed if I could be bothered trying to track down OEM ones.

As above, my bushes and mounts are now in and I can't say as it's an issue at all.

Mind you coilovers + lowering + bushes + strut brace and it's hard to tell whats making the difference. But it isn't a bad thing at all.

Still going strong, no sign of squeaks or harsh ride etc. They got a bit of a work out around Sandown last weekend and along with all the other suspension stuff, I've got to say I'm pretty happy with the result.
