That really sucks man - I'd be beyond p*ssed if this happened to me, but good result in the end even after the ordeal.

I always make a point of saying "these wheels are incredibly rare and expensive so please be careful" when handing them over to my tyre fitter haha

Dear Mr. Bob-Jane. I am sadface.

I will NEVER shop at a bob Jane again! I had a situation where I was shown a tyre they deemed unable to be put back onto the rim ( came in to have tyres swapped for even wear ). The tyre had a massssive air bubble inside and said it had to be replaced in which i insisted they fit back on as I would not be buying the tyre from them... Long story short I took the car to where the tyres were from so he could inspect it.. What would you know we took every tyre off the rim and NO WHERE to be seen. We both swear to this day that i was shown someone else's tyre in hope they would net an extra sale out of me. Worse yet my tyres on the rear were well and truly chewed out within 6 months of that visit which I suspect they royally f**ked the alignment. Enclosed on this reply is a picture of just how bad the camber wear was. Towards the middle of the tyre will give you an idea how much tread was on the tyre BEFORE they got their dirty hands on my stuff! Never again!!

That doesn't look like camber damage to me.

That looks like a burst air bubble caused possibly by slamming a pot hole (and then the bubble was rubbing excessively on something, possibly the road). There is no obvious camber damage, which would be consistent around the entire circumference of the tyre tread.

Dear Mr. Bob-Jane. I am sadface.

Also the other tyre has bands visable too... But didn't have a hole like the one in the picture. Also the tyre didn't go flat they were still holding pressure up until I had them taken off also

Bad wog, i reckon your tyres are rubbing on the vehicle somewhere. That damage does not happen overnight and it is really severe. If you only recently purchased the vehicle I would recommend you ensure that your wheels are not rubbing anywhere on the floorpan or suspension. If you're not capable of this there's a couple of places who could probably look at it for you (Prestige and Performance and Alba European come to mind as they both know VWs). If they are not rubbing anywhere then who knows, it will probably best to ignore it as a second hand car surprise rather than dwell on it.

PS: More often than not the lumps are only visible when a certain air pressure or temperature is reached. A picture of the tyre off the rim proves nothing other than there is damage.

It is REALLY super-dooper unlikely that the tyre shop had a tyre exactly like yours but with a lump to fool unsuspecting customers such as yourself into purchasing a new tyre. It just doesn't make sense when tyres more often than not speak for themselves - whether it be a visible problem, the way they drive on the road or the date code on the sidewall indicating they're way too old to be relied upon.

Tom I should tell you now that picture is of my previous VZ Berlina...that was my 2nd set of 20's for the rims I had on it (previous set were cheap zeetek tyres... rubbish BTW but did not fail like this kuhmo did!

I can reassure you now that they were certainly not rubbing any where on the vehicle... that damage happened over 6 months, never thinked to check inside as I had never had camber issues previously (already had the tyres for over a year) AND the rest of the tyre had PLENTY of meat throughout (except the inside lol)

The air pocket would have run about 30cm around the inside rim of the tyre and the tyre was off the rim when I was shown and it was inside the tyre where the bubble was..not outside.

Really super-dooper unlikely is correct not impossible though....I didnt initially think it could have been another tyre from another vehicle but I was sitting in the waiting room for over 30mins while they did the work, plus i wasnt watching their work. Like I said earlier I went straight to the tyre shop where I initially purchased the tyres as there was PLENTY of tread on them still and was concerned maybe it would be a warranty issue. Took ALL the tyres off the rims and could not find ANY issues with ANY of them at all.

That camber wear only started after bob jane did a wheel alignment on it. Before all this happened I also had a slow leak which i took to a different bob jane when i was working and they said that they couldnt fix it nor could they put it back on due to it being too close to the sidewall. I refused to pay $370 for a replacement when they cost me $250 not long before that.... I told them to put it back on and i would continue to top up the slow leak and get it fixed elsewhere. Needless to say I had the tyre fixed successfully at another tyre dealership claiming there was no issue with it being TOO close to the edge and that it was a ploy to squeeze a few extra dollars off me. unfortunetly the SAME bob jane did the same scam with my friend who didnt know any better... he had a BMW that he took into the same bob jane and they tried to do the same tactic to him...unfortunetly he fell for it and paid for a new tyre. He showed me where his nail was and was further away from the edge then mine!!

                  dodgy!!!

If you say so. I can't really say much more because I'm failing to see how the tyre shop is in the wrong here. but that's just my opinion.

I know it sounds strange but whenever my car ever goes anywhere i will always take a few general pics around the car.

At the end of the day it's just ammunition if something goes wrong but always make sure you set your camera to put the time and date on each photo and take them just before you deliver the car so they can't give you the old "That could have happend any time last night".

Which one did you go to BadWog?

I recently used Bob Jane at coorparoo and couldn't be happier with thier services.
They cleaned my wheels and fitted new tyres with balancing and alignment and everything was cost effective and timely.

Mate, your story just doesn't make sense. And the picture provided doesn't really show wear from just bad camber.

For example, here's a tyre worn down to the belts by excessive camber. http://image.minitruckinweb.com/f/mi...n-out-tire.jpg Yours doesn't really look like that... Something else went wrong with that tyre when it was fitted to your car.

The rest of the tyre looked like that and so did the other rear tyre. " something went wrong with fitting it " .... That's bob Jane who fitted it?

If that happened to you who would you point the blame at for why it cambered so much within months...maybe the people who aligned the tyres? Hmm
