  • Dear Mr. Bob-Jane. I am sadface.

    So,

I had my mk6 17" gti tyres changed at Bob-Jane Oakleigh and had this FANTASTIC EARLY CHRISTMAS GIFT waiting for me upon my return:

They swear they have no idea how it happened and "LOOKS LIKE YOU HIT A GUTTER MATE". I thoroughly checked the rims prior to leaving the vehicle with them and each rim was fine (there was a tiny stone chip in one, but fine otherwise).

When I challenged the damage, they gave me an $80 discount to have the wheel repaired (based on what they 100% believe it will cost to repair) for damage to the rim but wrote on the very same invoice "DAMAGE WAS NOT SUSTAINED HERE"....

Overall, the two staff members I dealt with were unbelievably rude, arrogant and I was repeatedly verbally abused for daring to suggest they damaged my vehicle and was told that I was a scammer who is now banned for life. Hilarious and totally fail.

    Avoid.

    -Mythik.

Is this the same Bob Jane where the riots were?

If you're 100% sure it was them don't back down and speak to management. Don't accept a ban from their store as you did nothing wrong (although you wouldn't go back it's the principle).

The very same store. You'd never know anyone trashed the place. Looks nice inside.

I am 100% sure. I even had my partner check over each rim for my own sanity prior to the vehicle being taken by them.

My uneducated eye tells me the damage was the press they use to push the tyre bead off as it seems like a good fit for the damage sustained to the rim. I'd love others input.

I'm just lost for words at the whole situation.

Had the same thing happen at another Bob Jane but as I didnt notice it till later I couldnt do much about it.

While I was waiting I noticed the guy drop the arm of the tyre changer onto my rim but didnt think much about it till I saw what had happened.
Next time I get tyres I will take a photo of each rim with a time stamp just as I go into the place to prove they werent damaged.

          OUCH!!

That's not gutter damage! Seriously, anyone who has EVER fitted a tyre will know that this is a result from the head hitting the wheel while it's spinning. Most likely while taking the tyre off. I cannot believe such a high-profile business wouldn't just own up and say "our apologies, we screwed up, we'll fix it"

I would take it further if I were you, and lodge an official complaint with the Bob Jane Corporation. It's not your fault that they employ monkeys.

I've briefly met mythik and can concur he's got an eagle-eye for spotting imperfections so would have no trouble believing him here

You'd think so, but all I got was abuse and anger with them claiming me to be a scammer.

If you could put me in touch with anyone directly at Bob Jane Corp, I'd be most appreciative. This kind of behavior is totally unacceptable.

The most I've found so far in my research is:

I'll attempt to make contact on Monday to go over the sad saga.

this is the very reason i have an acute paranoia whenever i need to replace tyres... we should have a list of recommended and name n shame tyre shops.

i think next time i will take photos of each wheel in front of the shop manager before and after for 'just in case'

Sorry to hear & see that mythik.

Great idea Nat. That's exactly what I'm going to do with any mechanical work requiring tyres to be removed,.. Bring the manager out, show him the rims and take photos of each tyre infront of him,.. No denying then!!

I've socialised the situation around the tyre shops near where I live. The consensus is "they ****ed up and scratched it with the tyre machine" universally. Each shop is suprised they didn't own it and tried to blame me.

I've arranged to have the wheel repaired via Burwin VW service department's recommended repairer. The whole team there are awesome and I cannot begin to recommend you take your car there enough. It was never really about the money, it's about being treated like a criminal when they are at fault.

I've also written a very polite and succinct letter to corporate head office complaints department enclosed with a copy of the invoice and print shop copies of my pictures. I hope it leads to a positive action from corporate towards this franchise and others do not have to experience this.

Thanks to all for your input.

Twitter or Facebook your concerns that seems to get corporates to react as they don't like bad/negative publicity.

                            An update:

The owner of the shop in question Neville is a champion. It seems he has some challenging staff undermining his business on occasion. He refunded me the difference between the $80 refund given and the actual cost to repair the rim from my repair invoice.

How did this come to pass?

I called Bob-Jane corporate and spoke to Mark who is the Victorian franchise manager and he looked into the matter and got in touch with the franchise owner and arranged the whole thing.

                            A good outcome!
