Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Dave, did you head over to Costco for that looksee?
Just had a look on their website & it only seemed to have this one listed:

$125, but weighs in at a bit over 24kg's... Not sure how much a 'lightweight' one weighs? The brand is Torin.

    Cheers.

The light weight ones weight around 15kg and can lift 1,000 - 1,200 kg.

Nope haven't tried mine yet. Still in its box. Played with the one on display at Costco though. They've got plenty in stock. Think they only just restocked so no hurry.

Finally got 'round to getting one:

I just read a post in the Polo section where Stuwey said best jacking point is under the sill 'with a big neoprene block on top of the hydraulic jack'. This still ok for the heavier Tiguan? Where do you get big neoprene blocks from? Clark Rubber? Any other suggestions?

                Cheers!

Hey can anyone tell me yay or nay as to whether you can jack a car from under the lower arm, just inside where the 3 bolt are poking downwards?

                  Thanks!

yeah would interest me too! I reckon any kind of rubber would to the job, I'm using one of those thin Tupperware rubber squares that is actually for opening twist top bottles.

This or this depending on where you want to jack the car.

You won't be able to reach in there as the wheel will be in the way. You can jack it up from where the subframe is though, the point where that control arm connects up to.

Thanks for the recommendations. The side-lift jack pad will be ordered from Pure Motorsport!

Ray, i didn't mean where the bolts are, but about 15cm inside, just inside the wheel & tyre. Wasn't sure if the arm was suitable to jack at this point, even though it looks quite solid. Thanks for the tip, though!

I wouldn't use the arm, it's not designed to take forces in that direction.

Use the subframe under where the lower arm pivots.
