  • Here's my contribution back to this forum. just for those who might be keen on Michellin's... I've requested a quote for a mate who is really keen on getting the PSS's. Got a quote response from Tire Rack 2 days ago with full shipment pricing. So I believe at this stage, you can still get the Michellin's. My only disclaimer is that I hvn't confirmed the order for my mate yet... so... maybe things might change?? Jump onboard asap for those who wants Michellin's from Tire Rack! GOOD LUCK!

    • Two things jump out from this thread about tyres that we supposedly cannot buy from the US. First, there is a free trade agreement, Australia-United States Free Trade Agreement - Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade
between the two countries that seemingly prohibits this behaviour, whether the FTA includes consumers, I am not sure, contact your friendly ACCC, 1300 302502, or see at Australia-United States Free Trade Agreement - Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade

And secondly, there appear to be agents that one can engage to do the buying for you.
      Dont give up

      • All nice in theory, but ur dealing with the govt, who wants to be the one that tries to fight the system when the alternative (buying another comparable and equally good brand, or getting from another country) is just as easy, maybe not as cheap but still cheaper than locally.
Sometimes u gotta fight the good fight and know when to cut ur losses.

                • When I dealt with them, not much happened until I was allocated a service person.
In conversation, he said that there were a bunch who could do Australia, but once one was allocated that's who you were stuck with.
Unless, as I discovered, you lodge a complaint. But that took a few days to get a response, so I wouldn't use it to hurry up internal processes, unless no-one is dealing with you. Good luck. I was very happy with Zig,... zig@tirerack.com/

                  • I've been dealing with Gavin, always quick to respond - gavin@tirerack.com

I ordered a set of 225/40/ZR18 92Y Continental ExtremeContact DW - all up $975 shipped.
Wired the funds today - will let you know how long they take to arrive.

                    • Tyres were shipped on the 10th, half were delivered on the 17th, second half delivered today the 19th.
Pretty quick turn around, although I'm not sure how half of the order was held up in customs for 2-3 days?
Overall very easy transaction - not to sure if I ended up saving, as I'm not sure what the Contis are worth in aus

                      • Just ordered mine, was a pretty painless transaction. I dealt with Neal O'Neal (love the name )
Only pain was the time difference!

Just updating my previous post. My friend took the quote, made the telegraphic transfer w the full sum for the Michelin's, Tirerack received the money... THEN informed my friend that they are not allowed to ship Michelin's out of USA or something along the lines of not being able to get the stock from Michelin's because its to be delivered overseas. Apparently he was also told that Bridgeston and GoodYear have the same policy now as Michelin's? Maybe Yokohama's too?? I'm not sure if I heard or remembered wrongly as I was in a middle of something when he called to vent.... Continentals are ok though he said.

                            • I got an email just this last week saying Goodyear was still ok. I was just about to go down the assym2 line also.

                              • Tirerack experiences?

The funny thing was... Everything was quoted as ready to go.. My mate even did the telegraphic transfer. Only Upon receiving the money, TireRack then informed him that Michellin cannot be sent and had some 'mosquito clause' attached w all it's tyres. Don't know what this mosquito clause is, apparently something to do w Michellin specifies TireRack to not send its product out of US without its authorization.

So best to check w ur contact thoroughly before sending ur money over.
