Buying rims from UK/OS - worth it? legal? or dont bother

Just googling rims for my transporter and stumbled on a nice set from a UK ebay seller. there seems to be a lot more choice available o/s both in UK and USA, so it got me thinking.... is it worth it to buy wheels from o/s? is it legal from ADR/RTA compliance point of view?
I checked out the price for a set at around $600aud and shipping at about $400 which (maths geniuses) comes to 1k for a set. there are some nice choices, for example these 4 from ebay...there are many more but this was my pick

I guess if anything goes wrong or you are unsure of load rating issues, buying here has it's advantages...plus wheel tyre combo's are pretty well priced.

I can help you with German made AZEV wheels in 18" for your Transporter but not for $AUS600 a set.That sounds awfully cheap for a set of anything.

I bought oz racing rims from performAncealloys in the uk. They were above the $1000 customs limit so I had to deal with taxes and duties. The rims that ur looking at are well under so u shouldn't have an issue. I didn't have any issues. Wheels should be the same there as here pretty much. No one is gonna hassle a guy driving a van with rims.

With the import duties and taxes and stuff does the $1000 limit include postage or just the actual wheels themselves?

Postage not part of the total, so spend up to $1k or get the seller to help u out with invoicing

What sort of price have they come up with for shipping?

I might be able to help is you find out the weight of the wheel and the box plus the size of the box.

I still have an account with a shipping company from when we lived in the UK.

the $1000 threshold doesnt include postage costs.

however, if the cost of the goods exceeds $1000, then customs will include the value of the postage to determine how much duty and GST is payable

i have used a freight forwarding agent in the UK called ukbrandsworldwide.com - UK Specialists in Personal Shopping and Package Forwarding.

they offer reasonably good rates, but you need to provide them with shipping weight and dimensions to get a quote from them

AZEV make beautiful wheels in the old fashioned German way with no centering rings,spacers,etc.All wheels are custom fit for your specific vehicle with correct factory drilled PCD,bored hub hole and offer a selection of offsets.

They have a great selection of wheels for all VW products and most other cars.
