Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

    BTW, what is it with the 505 GTI. Sure, it was probably a reasonable car, but why did Peugeot feel it necessary to sully the GTI badge like that? The 205 GTI would also have been hurt by this silly idea!!!

        Rims and tyres, 14 to 16" from the early 80's nissan exa fit almost perfectly although are a tiny bit tight aroung the drum brake bearing lock nut lip but will bolt on with about 10 minutes of sanding the inner rim

          "GT" = "Gran Tourisimo" (or something like that) which is a snobby way of saying, "My car is better than yours!" "i" = "injection" which should mean that the car is fuel injected. Work it out for yourself. The Pug GTI is a relatively slow car despite it's 2.2L of fuel injected motor. It's heavy. The Golf GTi is a very quick car so really what it comes down to is power to weight ratio. I can personally vouch for the excellent handling/pointing/braking/suspension of the Pug. Mine was outstanding and I really miss it, however there is NOTHING that compares to the Golf driven by an experienced front wheel driver.

                Ahh mr golf you are forgetting that Canberra is the home of Pollies, pyro and Porno. If you mix the three together you get a nerdy cross dresser that goes off with a bang!!!

                    Please note this list is a GUIDE to correct wheel fitment. There may be errors or ommisions.

                    You should always check before fitting tyres to wheels that the wheel is a good physical fit on the vehicle hub. Check for firm fitment on the centre hub brake caliper clearance to spokes, clearance to suspension and steering components.

                    OFFSET is often referred to as ET which stands for Einpress Tieffe in German.

                    OFFSET = BACKSPACE - ½(RIM WIDTH)

                    Hi Mr Golf....thanks 4 the info....just wondering if U could provide info as to what alloys (112x5) T4 transporter will comply with the legal/insurance load ratings?

                    Thanks....Doublecab

                      Excellent resource

                      Well done. If it's OK I'm gonna copy this excellent resource and put it into "Interesting Articles". (For the record, the original intention was that all posts that contained information generic to all watercooled VWs was to go into that forum.)
