Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

    Ask and you shall recieve

    Middle of front bumper: 127mm
    Sump: 120mm!!
    Middle of side skirt: 180mm
    Middle of rear bumper: 270mm

Meaning I could only lower 20mm before the sump is below the limit

be interesting to challenge that law.

A bog stock falcon sits higher than say an FPV equivalent, so how can putting FPV suspension in your bog stack falcon make it illegal?

true, let alone suspension sagging over time

There can be a lot of difference between what will pass an inspection, what is legal and what is safe. There are plenty of examples of things that are "better" but not legal

If it has an engine or heartbeat it's going to cost you.

My Caddy, for example. Pretty sure it's borderline for ride height (distance reduced from standard) and it's definitely not dangerous..

sound pretty dumb, as dylan said, all cars suspension sag over time so probably 99% of cars in tazzie could have their insurance policies refused under those grounds. not likely though.

btw i've recently gotten some H&R sport springs which lower a stock golf (i.e. 1.6, 2.0) 36-38mm, so i reckon my 1.8t sump will go from about the current stock 135mm to about 115mm, so no dramas there (for NSW 100mm rule)
will find out for sure when i get it installed hopefully within a weeks time

and regarding the side discussion of spacers, yes they can be very dangerous. i tried to install some 10mm spacers on my rears the other week.
fortuntately i tested their fit on the back of the wheel before i attempted to mount them, because i discovered that the chamfer on the inside of the wheel does not clear the lip on the spacer, and as a result there would have been hardly any contact of the wheel with the spacer, and my wheels would probably have fallen off...
not gonna bother trying to increase the chamfer on my wheels, think i'll take it as a sign to keep things legal on the car...
will be selling them soon if anyone is interested (ecs spacers)
