  • Whiteline sway bar not fitting...

    Hi all,

My coilovers are in and new front sway bar is in. clearance to the drive-shaft finally! My only problem is when the sway bar is on 'lose' (or outer hole) setting, it hits the lower control arm. my mechanic then fitted it at the tighter setting and it only just clears it. it also seems to be worse on the driver side if thats possible...

He suggested getting longer end links, but i was under the impression just the bar solved all the problems...

Anyone else had this problem or has any suggestions?

    Cheers, Dylan

Was it a simple fix, maybe you could post it up. Might save someone else some grief down the line??

Agree, should tell us all the fix as an aid to others with any probs.
I have always used Whiteline on my Golfs including my old Mk1 racecar, the rear bar worked well when it was attached and I recieved a balck flag in one race after it ripped the mounting point from the body. Its a well known problem....
Over the years I have fitted a lot of Whiteline bars to various brands and most are good.
The front bar on my Mk5 isnt perfect, it hits on bits under there occassionaly.
I am aware of the problem and keep an eye on it...

            Hey Jim,

Will Pm you shortly. EDIT: apparently we cant PM you?? I have been talking to John Leighton at Redranger via email but he is way on holidays currently.

Id rather not post up at the moment guys for various reasons as its still being solved. and id rather not cause problems for myself and or whiteline as they have been fantastic so far!

G’day everyone and happy new year,

Dylan8, sorry about that but we need to shut off PM as we can’t respond to all the forums we contribute too. Sometimes it also needs other people to answer some questions so we prefer if people send an email either to support@whiteline.com.au or to me directly and can get it to the right person if I’m not them.

As you know with Xmas and New Year a lot of people are away on vacation and it’s our equivalent tot eh summer holidays so things sort of slow down over January. If its OK with you. I’d rather leave it with John so he can follow through. If not, let me know what I can do.

              Cheers

Im bring this thread back to life.
Does anyone else on here have a Whiteline front sway bar in their Mk4?
I'm onto my second sway bar, 2nd set of end links (which have just snapped again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)
Basically I want to find out if anyone else in AUS is having problems or just me?

What type of endlinks do you (or did you) have Dylan, just the whiteline ones? I'm using FKs on a stock bar but they've only been on for a month and a bit. I think they still don't quite clear all the time though.

First I had stock plastic ones with a whiteline sway bar, then stock end links on a different whiteline sway bar, now whiteline end links and a whiteline sway bar. Are your FKs adjustable??

                        other end link broken... sigh

x2 new links ordered, if these break i will lose my ****.

These sway bars and end links are going to be the most expensive things on my car soon!

EDIT: what is everyone else running on there Mk4s in AUS? i only installed mine to allow me to go low, and it seems to have backfired a little

                          Hi Dylan,

I hope it is ok to step in here .I just thought i would let you know that when you post on here it takes us a little while to find out and as we pride ourselves on our customer service and after sales service it would be great if you could contact us direct as well to solve the problem of our product.

You are probably aware but the Front sway bar for the MK4 has a foot note on the listing that states only fits FWD models with control arm mounted link .It also states it will only work with cars no lower than 40-45 mm from the stock height.

Also does the bar have poly rings on it to stop sideways movement ?

I find it would be allot easier if you email me direct at wayneb@redranger.com.au (I have taken over from John Leighton ) and i can deal with this promptly and get you what you need or a solution to your problem.Include your phone number and I will phone you as well if you think that would be easier or faster .

I will wait for email and lets get you happy and cornering the way you wish.

                          Thanks

Ah ok. Mine are adjustable, although I'm not exactly sure how effective they are. I only just wrapped some masking tape around the driveshaft on the driver side to see if it does still rub as I think it might. I haven't had a chance to get back under it and check if the tape is rubbed away yet though.

I hope it all goes well for you mate.

well new end links in, seems to be ok so far, but ill let time tell.
I did the same with the tape, doesnt take much to make them clear though.

Ill email you after I see how it goes Wayne.
To answer your questions on here. Yep my car is a FWD, and in regards to the "control arm mounted link" im guessing you mean the plastic or metal end links?? if so yes i have them.
Has that note about only being able to lower 40-45mm always been on the site..? because i have never seen it before, and I wouldnt have brought the bar if this is the case. I only got it for going low, as the Mk4 bora and golfs need to be altered when they go below ~40mm. I believe I must be about 60-70mm lower then normal (but this is also to do with smaller sized tyres so I couldnt give you an exact measurement)

This bar has two poly rings on it (the first bar didnt have them at all) BUT the poly rings themselfs arnt fixed in place on the bar, so my mechanic and myself could never work out what they were for.

I also noticed the bar is rubbing on the body in the centre and on both control arms (will try to get some pictures)
