  • 9WZ Bluetooth Network issues.

Jumped in the car today (Touareg, RNS, 9WZ). Phone normally connects within a minute.

Spotted the connection prompts on the RNS and MFD. Cool.

Selected number to ring, unit went into "I'm calling this number for you" mode. Within 30 seconds, it disconnects the dialing attempt with a screen message "No Network".

    hmmmm.

Switch BT off on the phone (phone disconnects from the RNS). Voila!!!! Full signal on the phone. OK. BT switched on.

    Rinse and repeat. Same result.

Reset the RNS and the phone several times. Same result. As soon as phone connects to the 9WZ, there is no network. Hmmm...dodgy phone?

Get home...grab wifey's phone (same brand/model as my phone). Same results.

I'm suspecting 9WZ connections, but will check this weekend. Anyone struck this? Any thoughts?
No VCDS scans done yet because the unit actually connects to the phone, just can't find the network.

Try disconnecting 9WZ (unplug the connector).

      Using rsap?
If your phone doesn't support it the the BT unit will take your phone's SIM profile for itself.
Unpair (forget) the vwphone from your phone.
Pair again and when asked if you want to allow the phone to take control of your SIM say no and select don't ask again.

            Yeah that's right...
Forget pairing on your phone, you can also clear pairings via adaptation on the bt module.
            Repair.

Strange the unit loses network, when both phones are paired (individually of course). No updates completed on either phone since they last paired with the 9WZ (last week). So the problem appears to be the unit.
I'll get it out from under the dash at the weekend and check that all connections are secure. The more I think about it...the more the connectors seem to be the culprit.

                Transporter/Julian......does the 9WZ use 2G/3G networking....or is it a 2G unit only?

My service provider is Optus networked and apparently they shut their 2G network down last Saturday

Pulled everything out yesterday, undid all connections, checked, re-connected. Na-da. Zilch. I'm resigned to believing that the 9WZ unit uses 2G technology, and since Optus shut that side of the network down on 1/4/17, and my unit failed with it's first use by me after that date, it's wasted effort going any further. Now searching for a Kufatec replacement.

                    That's incorrect.
I have a 9wz and i can use it in both rsap or non-rsap mode.
My HTC connects in rsap mode, 3G.
When wifey drives the car, her Samsung connects in hands-free mode.

                    The 9wz works either way.

I have tried all permutations....cannot get the S4 phone to connect unless rSap is operating on the phone.

essentially, it is the phone that decides if it connects in remote sim access profile (rsap) or hands-free profile (hfp) mode, not the BT module.
that's why the 9WZ can operate in either rsap or hfp mode, depending on the phone.

when u pair for the first time, and the phone has rsap capability, it will ask u if u want to give the bt module sim access. if u say yes, then the phone will pair in rsap mode.
if u say no, it will pair in hfp mode
"JRVRS" is the 9WZ BT module.

if you're phone has already been paired in rsap mode, and u want to turn it to use the regular hfp mode, go to your phone's bluetooth settings and untick the "Sim Access".

rsap mode will say "Premium", u have access to sms and better reception as it uses the external antenna.

                            hfp mode
