Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Dynaudio Amp Upgrade Queries

    Hey all,

I'm wondering if anyone here gone the dynaudio upgrade route and replaced their factory amp with a dynaudio one? Apparently the units to look out for are from the B6 Passats (3C0-035-456-C or 3C0-035-456-H i think?) and give a nice sound upgrade without having to pull you doors apart, especially if you've already got the factory 10 speaker system. I've seen the earlier model "C" amps go for a few hundred on eBay, and in my book that seems like a decent price for an easy (plug and play + coding) sound upgrade.
For reference i have a 2008 MK5 Jetta with the aforementioned 10 Speaker System, currently with the factory RCD500 (basic 6-stack cd w/mp3 playback) and an aftermarket bluetooth adapter on the CD changer port.

    Thanks in advance

The dynaudio amp for the Passat is totally different to the golf/Jetta.
    Are you upgrading a Passat?
If so what year and do you already have a 250w factory amp?
A few have done the upgrade in a Passat and it's either really easy (plug and play and recode the head unit) or very involved (different plugs so you either make a custom adapter or buy a new wiring harness.)

I'm looking to upgrade my MK5 Jetta, as ive seen a few threads where people used the aforementioned part numbers in their MK5 Golfs (GTI/TDI), MK5 Jettas and MK5 R32's.
From the threads, those with factory VW amps (located under seat) have had success with straight swapping (they might have had to turn the plugs upside down?) them out for Dynaudio ones.

      ***EDIT***

I had been assuming i had the factory underseat amp as i had the 10 speaker option and the "premium" cd player. had a look and i dont :') rip my hopes and dreams might have to start looking into aftermarket amps

If you have an amp under the seat already, just check the plug.
If it's a single big 50pin plug it's not PNP.
If you have one grey and one black 24 and 28 pin plugs it's a straight swap.
Impedance on the speakers I don't think matches up and therefore crossover frequencies on the rear woofers and tweeters won't be correct. But it will work.
