  • T5 upgrade to RCD510 and Bluetooth

I've literally spent 6 hours researching and going insane. If I spend much longer my wife will kill me. Your help will be appreciated.

So. I have a 2013 VW multi an with the standard single din stereo and I've just purchased a second hand RCD510. 5K0 035 190 B. Then realised there was lot of different RCD 510's and Bluetooth was not built in.

So, I have a few questions for clarity and advice.

    1. If I get a 9W7 or 9W2 Bluetooth for this unit, which one? There seems to be so many versions.
    2. Is it worth getting the 9W7 over the 9W2?
    3. Is there a battery drain issue with my combination of van and stereo?
    4. Should I consider a Dension BT Pro (or similar) instead. It's seems like it would be easier and gives me the same features, is this right?
    5. Or just get a totally different stereo like the Eonon?

My goal is just to have good BT for music and phone calls with Steering wheel controls and preferably MFD compatibility. Having Android or CarPlay seems nice, but it's a luxury.

    1. 9W7 for what you described that you want
    3. No battery drain with RCD510
    4. I personally would go with 9W7
    5. No Chinese knock offs for me, I don't want introduce the battery drain and possibly other issues into my van

The VW unit is more durable and reliable than the Chinese ones and just work every time. I hope it helps.

      Thanks for the advice.
Is it possible to get ANY 9W7? Are there specific versions to look out for?

Any version should be good for what you wanted it for.

Are you sure the multi does not already have BT? From memory all 2013 Multivans had BT as standard. The BT was not part of the RCD310 the car would have had standard. If it does have it, it will likely by a 9W7 already.

Should be as simple as plugging in the RCD510 and all should work.

Don't laugh, but I don't know if it's 2012 or 2013. I've seen both on different paperwork. Inside drivers door it says 01/13. So maybe it's a 2012 model that's been plated in 2013. Does it work like that?
I searched under seats. Cannot see BT.

Also, can you confirm if I'll need to find someone with VCDS to enable the BT etc?
