  • Retrofit RNS-510 to 08 Touareg = poor reception

I have T2 2008, 3.0 TDI, with RNS510 retrofitted recently, (upgraded from OEM Delta).

I have a problem with FM perception, very poor and inferior to the Delta it replaced, unit shows only one antenna being accessed by the head unit.
I can see the antennas in service menu like A1/ON A2/OFF, swapping the connectors on the head unit results in A1/OFF A2/ON with no change to reception quality.

My T2 is CANBUS2 and has the red MFD, I have full functionality with navigation (route directionds appear in mfd), bluetooth works fine as well, checked with a couple of fellow owners with the same model and both of them tell me they see both A1 and A2 ON and reception is good.

So ............., there must be something still needing to be done to enable both antennas to be seen by the RNS510 and enabling the switching to be done.

Any advice, this thing is driving me nuts!

    Thanks a lot.

If the vehicle originally has 2 antenna connectors for the old Delta unit you may find that the RNS510 has a built in diversity amp and you are now running thru both. You need to bypass the vehicle's diversity amp, located in the roof just forward of the rear parking sensor light panel. You can do this with a FAKRA connector and cable available with a google search.

Hi guys, thanks for the replies!

Flipper, I did see that tread some time ago, my take is that it is only the T1 that has Diversity built in at the rear and it is that that needs to be bypassed when retrofitting the 510, the T2 does (should) not have the Diversity set up at all as it is the head unit that does the switching (Diversity) which is reflected in the wiring diagrams in that link, Required Aerial mod for RNS510 Retrofit to T1 - myTreg forums
I did have a look under the headlining some time ago and you can see both side window antenna amplifiers it did not seem have a third one which I would expect to see if Diversity switching was being done there (I did take some pics which I will need to find) .
I am sure that the RNS510 does the diversity function and if we can confirm that the Delta head unit does the same it would help.

Steve, thanks but I already have that adaptor which was needed to connect the two single antenna inputs into the double Fakra connector in the back of the 510.

Please correct me if i have mis-understood any of this stuff.

How did u get the nav to appear in the mfd? I have an 08 passat with the same mfd. I installed the rns510 a few weeks back and dont have this integration
I take it you had factory Bluetooth in your car before retrofitting the new head unit. Don't have this functionally either.
Also no integration to the parking sensors.

You just need your canbus gateway correctly coded to add the new nav unit.
